Five weeks in the making, from start to finish. "'79 Golf GLD Turbo Diesel" The car started out as a '79 Diesel junkyard find in Southern California. It was posted on the Vortex for sale a while back,
and I had it shipped to our door a little while later. Here is what it looked like when we got it, and what it looked like for a few months sitting in our driveway until
it was ready for paint. Before I even had it painted I bought ALL of the parts that I needed for it to make it "mine," which is why it didn't take that long to finish it, but there are a ton of blood, sweat, and tears in the car. I have approximately 200 hours in it.

The car has 43,xxx original miles. Paint was supposed to be Canyon Metallic, but was resprayed a couple of times in the past. I don't feel like typing much more, I'll just let the pictures do the talking.
I did keep the original interior, just cleaned it up and put a new dash in it. I put a 3-spoke steering wheel out of a Scirocco in it though.
looks good man,real good
the boneyards out there have sweeter "clunkers" than we have "drivers"
i cant believe you "only" have 200 hours in it
Niiiiiiiice... I'm drooling, and I don't even particularly care for the Golf style.
So what'd you do with the cookie cutters, out of curiousity?
Nice Job Man. Always nice see an MK1 refreshed and ready for the road.

Thanks for the compliment.
I still have the wheels.

I have a few complete sets of VW 13" alloys.

200 hours is a real close estimate. My wife is a real good reason it went from what it was to what it is. She helped with every aspect, from engine swap, tearing it apart, putting it back together. Basically everything.
Very nice ride man.
And you're lucky to have a wife that is understanding and will even pitch in and help with those kinds of projects.
Looks great! Did you clear coat it? How close is it to the original color? I need to get mine repainted too. Probably in the spring. So any info you can share will be a great help.
With the way the weather is going here, mine might be going nite-nite for the winter pritty soon...
Karl,
Yes it is clearcoated. It is pretty close to the original color. It is LE8V paint code mix.
We used gray primer. So it turned out a little lighter. It really depends on the light. Mine will be parked come winter.

Except for body work and paint , this car was resurrected by me and with the help of my wife. That includes the engine swap also.
Where did you score that über clean dash board?
