HI
I asked about using a 1.6 TD pump on a 1.9TD
Today I pulled the pully on the Cam and noted that the Cam has a Keyway and the pully does not - Why ? how does one set the cam timing?
Next THe Notorious Crank pully/bolt I have seen mention of an upgrade but does mine have one? OH and what is the other pully -where the water pump might be.
I am trying to post pics so if the link works....

I can't access the pic.
The 1.6 cam has a keyway, the pulley doesn't. The tapered mating surfaces prevent movement between the 2 parts. I was told they use the keyway when they manufacture the cam.
I won't reiterate how to set the cam timing. There's special tools to do it with and the instructions can be found easily.
The other pulley (toothless and runs on the back side of the timing belt?) is an intermediate shaft that runs the oil pump and vaccume pump. Not sure what else it does.
On my 1.6 the crank bolt is burried under some other stuff you have to take apart.
pics look normal :?
the 'non-keyed' Cam pulley is required to establish correct engine timing. It is the ONE item that allows, Pump, and crank and CAM to be in Fixed position, yet cam pulley to be adjusted, (due to belt tension needs) BE SURE TO TIGHTEN !!! and turn over a few times by hand before engaging starter...
From the looks of your Crank Bolt,,, If this is a true 1.9, then you DO NOT have the correct bolt. It is 12 point w/ a center 'outsticker' there is a pic on this site somewhere.
NOTE, you may need to drill some holes in that front seal plate (on tabs)to position your lower TB cover, or you can use one off 1.6. Might want to catch that b-4 you drop engine in. AND you might want to consider using a 1.6 rear main seal plate and seal. The 1.9's are built into the rear seal cover, (inferior design) and both mine have started leaking :x
