I'm going to buy a new car and i know its going to be a VW i just dont know what kind. gas/diesel, 3rd gen/2nd gen. golf for sure though. can the TDi's be tuned to put out decent power and torque? Would they keep up with say a 16V golf? maybe someone has some 0-60 numbers, or even 1/4 mile. (or sorry, the TDi would be in a 3rd gen, no swap here)
thanks,
Jeff

I was equal with a Mustang 5.0L in a modified 98 TDI.
They can keep up with 16v but watch out, 16v can be monster too. (Using EFI)

My friend did 16.8 on the quarter mile with a 1997 Jetta TD with slightly more boost and modified setting on the pump. No IC.

Are you 25 yet? The insurance company I am dealing with sells liability for 62 bucks a month if you are. There is no point to have full insurance on a car worth less than 10-15 grand.

nope, i'm 17. i pay $3741/yr, $312/month for an 89 N/A golf with JUST liability. I dont need theft, no one would ever dream of stealing my car, i've left it unlocked in missasaugua and downtown toronto before, it was still there when i got back. They said a 93 would be the exact same price, but a 95 would be $41xx.

Yeah $62 a month if you live in Sudbury! In Toronto I pay $91 a month to insure an 18 year old Jetta that I bought for $900. Each year, the insurance costs more than the car will ever be worth. And I'm 31. And that is THE cheapest that I could get in TO with a 6 year claim and conviction free insurance record. And I got that price by calling insurance companies, getting quotes, acting like I was going to buy then at the last minute telling them they were too expensive. Then I waited for them to call me back with lower prices. Quite a few did. I went with the lowest one.

you seriously need to shop for a car that was low insurance rate. Even the extra cost in fuel will defenitively coat you less than now.
Hell, I'm in Quebec and I pay 1K/year for both VW, full cover.
