Why does everyone seem to love the k14 so much? Please elaborate and tell me why you love it more than another turbo.

hmmmmmmmmmmm . . . Interesting. So its mostly because they spool uber quick? The reason I ask is because most everyone seem to be looking for one, and not to piss anyone off, but I just stumbled upon one tonight and wanted to know why they were so sought after.

The K14s seem to be very rare and/or the owner wants a kings ransom for them... it took me the better part of a year to source one at a price that doesnt seem silly since I spent $1200 bucks for my entire car.

If you find one, never let it go... except for a price !!

K14, I think.

Me, I'm still set on making a Miller/Atkinson cycled semi-ECO out of a 1.6TD and a K03 turbo. I have two of the darn things now, one's finally been rebuilt, waiting on money for kits for the other.

i guess i'm lucky.... i stumbled upon owning a k14 with my 1.6td engine, which i bought complete for $400 AUD. so i guess the turbo (which is in perfect condition) must be worth a lot then.... well i planned to keep it anyway, so lucky me!

i guess you guys must hate people like me ;-)

i have a T2 on my rabbit. works phenominally! I would imagine the K14 is similar.

so stock, you want a k14. What if you have some cheap and easy mods like a 2 1/2" downpipe, wouldn't this all go out the window? Isn't that what 935racers business is based on?

Like was mentioned before, it all depends on where you want your power. Low rpm power is really more usable in day-to-day driving. I think it actually makes the car feel "faster" than higher up in the rev range. What makes VNT cars fun to drive is that the turbo acts like a smaller turbo at low rpm and gives it that power off the line, like at traffic lights, etc.

Getting larger downpipes etc., is always good so you can lower EGT's.

My 91 jetta has a garrett T2 on it as standard,its a SB 1.6
My 83 AAZ golf has a T3 on it and im well happy with the performance compared to the jetta

The T2's physical size (housings) is almost identical to the k14 but the T2's wheels are also very close to the k03's.I consider the t2 as more like the k03 than k14.

935racer hardly speaks bs. The better downpipe creates less backpressure and exhaust gasses exit the turbo a lot faster so it spools better and lowers EGTs.

I have a rebuilt K24 in my TD. I can't wait to get a better downpipe and to up the boost to 20psi. IMHO, the K24 is a better design than the T3 (smoother inside, larger ID on the compressor inlet/outlet).

would it be a silly idea to try to hi-flow a k14 to improve its capacity to blow lots of air? my build for my mk1 ls (which is a light car, by aussie requirements at the time, it didnt need side intusion bars!) i figure that together with a 1.6 will have better spooling capability than a t3 would...

so, i was thinking would it be doable to try to get a larger compressor wheel into the k14 by porting the compressor housing and machining out the inlet a bit?

i'll have 3" mandrel bent system from the turbo all the way back. single rear box, and 3" all the way inc dump pipe, so i'll have no EGT or backpressure issues...

given all this, what will a stock k14 boost to in a 1.6 then? is it possible to crack say... 24psi?

I was just reading about the k14 and thought that a good source for these turbo's is the xud 1.9 td engine.

There are literally thousands of these turbos over here in the scrap as fitted to Pug 405, 306, 406, Citroen XM, ZX, Xantia etc.

I just sold one on ebay (admittedly for alot more than I expected to):

these engines also came with the t2, but it seems alot more common to see the k14's.
