What exactly is it? i needed some fuel and i pulled into a shell station and saw they have the ultra diesel, so i got some. its 3 cents per liter more than their standard diesel. is there any benefit to it?

Basically it is dosed with the additives we anal retentive would put in after filling :) is what I understand.
Waiting for a bigger better diesel to come along.

I think it's just a money grab. I don't notice any difference with it

same here.  i noticed a difference when going back to gold diesel though.  and an even bigger notice when using power service.

my personal opinion is to go with regular diesel & a cetane+lube additive.  who knows what 'junk' they put in.  although shell is supposedly 'ferarri' fuel , but then again i know of no diesel ferarri's
