Just want to say first, I'd like to thank everyone for their great input on information on the tips and tricks.. i've been creeping around these forums and the vwdieselparts forums for a couple months ever since I got my first diesel (converted dieselhead because of my father, 81' caddy diesel and his 89' jetta diesel.. both 1.6's.) I first bought this car back in March from my uncle who rebuilt the engine himself, great mechanic and portuguese.

Tomorrow I will be replacing the return fuel lines with some new ones because they're leaking all over the injector casing and leaking onto the block. But lately I have been realizing my coolant has been eaten up so very easily.. I was snooping around and only would get headgasket but could this be more of a serious problem?

I would refill it up monday and start getting quite low after maybe, say.. friday the same week? I do pizza delivery but I dont tend to beat on the car. It's a 1.6L Turbo Diesel with 255k miles and I run synthetic oil in this sucker. I'm also putting a 93' gasoline tranny because my tranny I have is starting to go. It's from a EcoDiesel (AVX code) versus the one I picked up used (well my father did from someone.. code DFQ if I remember right.)

Kind of went off topic but I tend to brag about it a little.

Coolant leaks are one of the hardest to find. Pressure wash your whole engine and then start it up and just watch it. If you don't see anything drive it for a day and look some more.

Worse then a headgasket would be a cracked head but there is no reason to assume the worst at this point. A cracked flange is just as likely

One time I did see in the oil was the green coolant.. but that was once or twice in the different spot in the parking lot. I do leak oil but I believe that is just headgasket anyway to me.

check your coolant flange just above the tranny for leaks ... goes up to the heater core ....
the other big one is the steel line from the water pump , across the front of the engine , over the tranny and to the heater core .... they rot out and "weep" coolant .....
the next one is the water pump flange ( under the car) that holds the thermostat and goes to the bottom rad hose...

mine was leaking from the radiator,barely noticed because of the messy engine bay :lol:
