Current turbo options for 1.6TD
«

Swapped a 1.6 eco-diesel / 5 speed into an '82 pop-top camper van. K14 turbo is now dead and not rebuildable.
Goal is general improvement in highway driving (and reliability).
If I go the Holset He200wg direction, what are the specs for what I would order?
Is there another option?
Giles modified the pump for more boost, it will be intercooled.
Thanks!

I really like my VNT-15.
Use your old intake.
Easy to fabricate exhaust when used in a MK1,
because it doesn't have to curve back to the p-side
just out down and back.
I use the old 4-2-1 exhaust brackets to support it before the flex section.
I'm going to try a toilet bowl next time.

I put on a KO3 from an 83 Jetta on mine. It seems to do just fine for my purposes. I just wanted some economy and better power on the hills around town when hauling loads of building materials around a town with some hill. I cruise at 55-60 under about 5 lbs boost in 5th.
It seems to spool up early and doesn't get much above 9 lbs under sustained load. Really made a difference in the Caddy.
So depending on your needs that one might work for you. It exhausts out the side and needs the flange that bolts on and dumps exhaust just to the right of the shift mechanism. Installer added a flex pipe just past the downpipe and relieved stress and vibration that way. Good clean and simple.

Yeah, that turbo needs a turbo outpipe that looks like a question mark.
Takes a hard turn.
Hard to find the factory one for a Rabbit.
I'm not sure a flex pipe relieves enough stress.
Depending how long the piece is before the flex,.. it's a big lever on the turbo.
On a vibrating engine.

There's a brand new "question mark" style down pipe on thesamba.com, but it's $300.

I was thinking my custom turbo outpipe was worth that.
That one is for a MK2.
The MK1 goes much farther toward the turbo.
It does show the bracket that comes from the manifold to support the pipe.
