Title: Need Some Advice and Help Please..
Post by: Billysgoat on July 14, 2007, 12:25:10 pm
Alrighty gents, I could use some help here. I just got my 81 Rabbit PU going, been driving it round getting the kinks worked out etc, well, one kink just screwed me pooch all up

Long story short there was a horendous knocking sound from the motor, at first I thought a rod was about to make a new port in the block but the knocking died out pretty quickly before I shut the motor off. Got stopped in a parking lot and re cranked the engine, loud knocking was not present but the slight tick the motor has had was MUCH louder

Pretty sure there was some valve to piston contact, the head is coming off to get all that checked, here's the questions I have.

Where is the best place to get a 1.9 metal HG to go back with?? How thick of a gasket should be used? I WILL be taking this little dude to higher than stock boost levels so dropping a bit in compression won't hurt one bit

Studs. It's gonna get them, headstuds.com does not currently list ARP's for the 1.6 diesel, who else carries them? Alternate brands that would be just as good or better?

If it's needed, where can I pick up a piston/rings etc??

Any thoughts on going back together with everything? Any little tricks to help out and keep the head planted firmly to the block?

Thanks guys!

Try germanautoparts.com for the metal HG. I don't think it's listed but send them an email, they have it in stock.

The metal HGs are the same thickness as the stock 1.6 HG so if you got a two hole HG, get a 1.9 two hole HG.

Headstuds.com doesn't list headsutds for the 1.6 because we use the ford cosworth hardware. Give them a call and ask them about cosworth hardware on a 1.6l vw diesel engine, they should know what you are talking about. summitracing.com carries them I think but they are more expensive there.

Thank You! Just what I needed to know on the HG!

I planned to call Headstuds.com, now I know what to ask them about, thanks as well  :D
