Title: Making more power from a 1.6 non turbo
Post by: jarrodback on June 24, 2007, 12:38:46 pm
Hello all, I am new to this forum, and new to an IDI car.  I have just purchased an '82 caddy with a 1.6L non turbo.  It seems that most of the discussion here is about TD's.  What can I do to make  more power from my current motor.  I am willing to turbo charge it if that isn't too expensive.  Or are there other mods that would be better/economical, etc.  etc.  Also is there a good source for parts that someone could provide.  Thanks in advance for any and all of your help.

A turbo kit will cost you less then $500 shipped to your door

If you have a toilet bowl style exhaust get a 4:2:1 setup. Also make the rest of the exhaust as big as possible. Since you don't have a turbo you will probably want 1 muffler.

New/rebuilt injectors, proper timing, half the gov mod and a couple turns of some screws on the pump will get you moving faster.

You should add your location to your profile

Be varefully how much boast you run on a NA block without oil squirters underneath the pistons.

Big must haves if running a turbo on a n/a:

Intercooler
External air/oil cooler - not the stock coolant/oil cooler..
EGT gauge

I would not run anything past 15 psi intercooled.
