Title: Oil pan options?

So, What are my options for changing my oil pan on a 87? 1.6TD? (if there are any options...)

I have a motor out of a front wheel drive car swapped into my rear wheel drive samurai. The bung on the oil pan points right at the front pumpkin and there is about a 1/2 litre of oil left in the pan when doing a change (tilt and tip) I am looking for a pan with a bung at the flywheel end. (rear sump) If there is such an animal please let me know year, model, and if your really good, a part number on the oil pump if that needs to be changed....

:lol: Have you looked at the HELP section of your local Auto Parts Super Store? They just might have a "Fix-It" fitting to replace a stripped oil bung.
Drill new oil drain hole where you want it, and install "Fix-It" part. No? :twisted:

You should have no trouble dropping the pan and replacing the bung.  Any fab shop could do it, or if you can weld, even better.

I figured it was probably easiest to simply bore another hole and weld a bung at the lowest part of the pan. Since I have to tear the engine down anyway I figured I would ask if there are any other pan options available.

Hmmm... The pan is different on the north south engines... I may need to reprase my question slightly different....


What model cars did VW make with a '87 1.6TD that were north/south (rear wheel drive) cars that were available in Canada? (I want to try and source the parts locally first)

I really don't know enough of the VW lineup to even start searching without a hint.

Humph!, well, that's no good.... I need it to be skinny at the front to clear the axel housing. :lol:

Thanks for the models, I'll search around now and see what I can find on those pans.

Any idea if the oil pump is different?

I see what your talking about being skinny....

I really could do with that indent on the other end of the pan....
