Post by: Zulfiqar on April 23, 2007, 12:24:58 pm
Hi,

my CV joints are shot - and need new ones, Ive asked around the local parts market - one guy says he's got a set of a 1982 Golf1 outer CVs - and doesnt know about the golf2 joints

They are some german brand and come with boot, grease and all. Its a oneway deal - cannot return them.

Any input guys - can Golf mk1 CVs fit the Golfmk2 hubs? desperately waiting

I think it depends. Are they the inners or outers? if it is the whole axle it definitly will not work.

I've used the inner and outer CV joints from a Rabbit on my 85 Jetta with no problem but the inner one is too small for my 89 GLI.I'm not quite sure what year they changed. 88 maybe?. I figured out the hard way though that the axle itself (or whatever you want to call the shaft between the CV joints) is shorter on the Rabbits and ended up swapping the CV joints over onto my axles after it pulled out of the outer CV joint on a sharp turn. Also, the MKI Golfs and Jettas have the same inner CV joints as 69 and later Beetles with the IRS suspension.

hmm - then I think that I'll have to take out the joint and match it - by eyeballing it - they seem similar.
