Title: Would a TDI cylinder head fit on a IDI block?
Post by: rabbit_diesel on April 12, 2007, 09:48:09 pm
I was just wondering if the 1.6 IDI diesel heads can be replaced with the TDI diesel heads.  Can they be made to be TDI's?  I don't have a TDI head, but by looking at them on pictures online, it seems to me that they are interchangable with the 1.6.  Are the bolt patterns the same?     thanks

Yes, that is very true.  I wonder what would happen if I used standard IDI pistons  .   thanks for the info

You would have about 150:1 compression and it wouldn't even be able to crank, much less run.

Are the TDI pistons the same bore size as IDI or do you have to rebore?

Do TDI pistons have the same wrist pin height as IDI, or would you have to swap conrods as well? Crank too? If you did all this would you still be at 1.6L or would the changes bring you up to a bigger displacement?
