Title: 1992 Jetta Ecodiesel - which head gasket to use?
Post by: k_harley on September 26, 2006, 02:05:17 pm
So Im going to do a head gasket on my car soon. I know there are a few  choices when it comes to which head gasket to use.

Its a 1992 Ecodiesel turbo Jetta

I know they are different thicknesses, and I may want to mod it in the future. What considerations should I think about?

Thanks!

get the same one that's on there. If you get a bigger one to lower your compression you'll have a harder time starting in the winter. It's best to measure the piston pretrusion (sp) to make sure you are getting the correct one, but if you replace it with what is on there you willbe good to go.
Unless you are planning on upgrading to the metal HG?

Well, Id like to get one before I tear it apart.... Im not sure about availability locally, but I guess I can ask ahead of time.

What if I went smaller and raised the compression ratio?

you run the risk of having your pistons giving your vavles a few love taps
