It is a series twin, and this photo should help to understand how it works a little better.

The balance between the larger and smaller turbos is controlled by this twin chamber, watercooled wastegate made of inconel.

The watercooled section is not shown, and it is a separate unit from the wastegate valves.  It is sandwiched between the valves, and the actuator, protecting it.  I do not know the application, but it should work over a wide range of mass flow rates, meeting the needs of a high power diesel engine.

Do you know what the A/R is for each turbine? Turbo manufacturer? Part #? How much did that cost ya, if you don't mind me asking?

I wonder if you could swap in another compressor/turbine to change the a/r...  That setup looks as though its for a large engine, or maybe I'm wrong.

the only thing that would worry me is that the exhaust bend would be pretty close to the smaller compressor.   Maybe its not that big of issue...

This machine is from garrett, and it should be fine for the 2.4L six that might spin it's turbines.  The a/r is not known, but I will see if I can find some information on it.  Measuring the a/r might be very difficult!

Based on the compressor and turbine sizes, the primary should have no problems with the 2.4L.  Even a 1.9 or 1.6L would work well.  The secondary looks to be in the same family as a large T4, and both primary and secondary turbos are GT spec cartridges for excellent mass flow.

If needed, each cartridge could be swapped out for something larger or smaller, but the turbos appear very well matched.  I hope to do some testing soon, either on the 2.4L or in the Mercedes.

I was about to suggest that too,  looks like something the Merc crowd could benefit from.

I hope so.  They were a pretty penny, but worth it, and I would like to get good use out of them.  The HX55VGT I have for the engine is going to require some major reworking to accumulate some space for it     The twins will require far less circular diameter in comparison.  In addition, seeing that the 240 is down right now, as I am doing some crazy things to the pump (iteration #35) for even more fuel and control, I might just try them out on the Mercedes after all.

The 240 produces some serious exhaust energy from the pulse tuned manifold for the inline six, and can use all the "turbo" it can get right now to keep up with the 14mm, super high lift camplate, pump.  The exhaust energy in comparison from the Mercedes, is vastly less.
