Title: Vacuum Gauge as Boost Gauge?
Post by: Op-Ivy on April 23, 2006, 10:35:41 am
I found a Vacuum Gauge kit that measures the psi of a vacuum line at princess auto yesterday. It goes from 0-30 psi. Would this work as a boost gauge?

It wouldn't work, and also it most likely be in inches of mercury rather then psi, since vacuum is relative to atmospheric pressure and atmospheric pressure is only 14.7 psi.

princess auto has gauges for compressors and such, that go to 30 psi, and some that go higher. the one i got is for a regulator for an acetylene cutting torch or something, goes to 50psi, and cost me $7.

At least in std (us) format, if it reads in "PSI" (Pounds per Square Inch) it measures pressure relative to atmospheric, if it reads in "IN-HG" (inches of mercury) it measures vacuum relative to atmospheric
Title: They have vaccum and Boost Gauge combos at princess

I picked up one but it only runs to 20 lbs of boost, but mine is running maybe 27 lbs of boost, and I think I damaged the gauge, because at idle It tells me I'm running 2 lbs of boost   .

I'm going to try the reguator gauges, I have a 0 - 30 pressure gauge prob for oxy and celtaline.

I think if you look, the princess auto gauge that you are looking at has boost on one side and vacuum on the other.  I think it is a boost gauge.

If you want a cheap gauge they have a pressure gauge in the hydraulics section for $4.99 that measures up to 30 PSI.  It's for air filters but the only issue is it doesn't have a light in it because it's not an auto gauge.
That doesn't matter to me because my dash lights don't work anyways but it may to you.

I use a boost gauge with the ombined vac. This monitors state of air filter when it's not showing boost ie at idle.
