Title: Titanium

Has anyone tried titanium valve spring retainers on a TD. I want to try some on a 1.9TD but am not sure if they are the same as gassers. EIP tuning and a few other places offer these for gassers of course.

The question that feeds on my mind is why a 5000rpm or even 6000rpm engine with fairly conservative cam lift would require lightweight titanium retainers? Seems like a bunch of expense for no gain.

In any case, I'm pretty sure retainers for the 8 valve would fit the diesel, just be sure to get them for the appropriate valve stem size. Early 1.9TD's have 8mm stems, later models have 7mm stems.

Ya your probably right. I plan to do some headwork like port and polish and I was thinking I could add these at the same time. Maybe I will just put the money twards a turbo upgrade.

Yeah, I agree - you would be spending money on something that will not benmefit you measureably.  I have worked with them and used them, and they are cool.  But, they are ennecessary in a diesel and I wouldn't install them - the stock ones are hella strong for our purposes, and will liekly last longer than Ti ones, too.

Not to mention Titanium is brittle and will eventually crack.
