I currently have a 1.5 d thats been the most pain in all my asses so i i just want it gone from my life. Theres some one near by who can sell me another 1.5 with a turbo. My question is whats worth my while. should i stick with the silly 1.5d that has a turbo and would be a breeze to drop in or seek out a gas swap to finally enjoy some power to the wheels... Around me the diesel options are far and few and i would feel so dumb if i went purchased another motor without knowing the history and be stuck back at square one. Thank you so very much, i just want a motor that will stand the test of time!

Or, maybe rapid transit tickets might be a good investment for you.

Areabaylove---- go for a 1.6 instead. One with a turbo would have the oil squirters in the bottom end. Look for an 82 or later and you will get the better head. 12 mm and potentially one with hydraulic lifters in place of the manuals.

You have more than one ass?...... hmmmm.
I would say it depends on what you want out of the car. If good mileage is your top concern then stay with diesel. The 1.6 is generally considered more reliable than the 1.5, and I believe should be a direct drop in replacement.

those older gas engines had problems, too, the 'newer' gas may be easier to set-up, for you. another vote for a 'later' 1.6 with turbo, if thats the set up you want, look for hyd lifters.
