For a RWD North/South application.
Fabrication of an adapter plate isn't out of the question.
Anyone done it?
Thanks,
Rich

hello fellow Michigander, I think your looking for this website
www.acmeadapters.com

Cool, thanks for the link. Thought the Suzuki package was only for 4x4, but no. Also 22R Toyota works.
Just scheming at the moment.

Is a Fox tranny 5 speed? Would it bolt up?
-
4 speed Foxes were more common. 5 speed were in the later models in the US. Fox Tranny is still front wheel drive. Several companies make vw diesel adapters for suzki trasmissions. Also certain Toytoa Standard and automatic transmissions.
One of the fastest VW's is a Corrado with a 16v turbo engine setup north-south, and using a HP RWD transmission.( I dont remember which one.) They may be using a differnt car now. Guys from Petro Rico. Serious VW racers
It is my understanding that all 4 cyl inline east-west VW's share a common bolt pattern. I would think the fox would too. I hace seen 2.0 16 V in a fox before. I think the biggest problem is the intake exhaust manifolds. I tink some Audi parts were used for some of these parts. 4 cyl TDI's were installed in Audi's in Europe not in the USA. I am not sure about Canada or Mexico.
VR6's use a differnt bold pattern. 16V use a heaver duty close ratio tranny, but still the 4 cyl bolt tranny. Also a larger input shaft. but the 8v's trannys work fine dependong on the abuse.

My bad. I was at a junkyard recently and looked under the hood of a Fox and saw that it was north/south oriented, so I just assumed it was rear wheel drive.

Toyota 22R (the old trucks, and maybe the 4wd tercels???)
The vanagons are rear wheel drive, but it's essentially the same setup as the front wheel drive fox, because the engine goes in the back...

Nah, they are the same design as subaru's. None of this sideways engine crap. But I'm not sure they made fox wagons (and I don't like sedans) so that's why I have a rabbit instead.

another Toyota W56 adapter - www.roadlessgear.com - figmo - he has one, reasonably priced - just the plate and modified Toyota flywheel. Use a 2wd Toyota trans for 2wd apps. The Suzuki trannys are ALL 2wd - they use a divorced tcase so the trans is essentially 2wd - but it's a bit weak for high hp. It's ok w/mild 1.6td, "marginal" with a 1.9td. It does have the advantage of being teeny and light, but I swapped out my kit and am working the conversion to Toyota components to go with my hot-rod CZ TDI-M that is replacing the 1.9td.

I thought the Sidekick 4wd trans had an integral t-case?
-
Sorry - Suzuki Samurai's all 2wd w/divorced case.
Suzuki Sidekicks are 2wd when 2wd, married case when 4x4.
There are kits for each. The bolt patterns are different, requires it's own adapter.

How about a desiel Volvo tranny, Volvo used VW desiels alot and had rear wheel drive?
-
The Volvo diesels are 6cyl inlines, and use the same bellhousings as the VW/Audi 5cyls, which are different from the 4cyls.
