Read that the Rover 200/300 is capable of 175hp +/-.
Is there really a need to have Giles pump built?
Modifying the Rover pump to fit into the 1.6 block does not sound difficult at all.
I am a noob. What am I missing?
Thanks.

The LR pump is specifically suited to direct injection engines. With one fitted to a 1.6, the aggressive timing advance, 11mm plunger and more abrupt camplate profile would all make for a VERY rattly engine.

Yup. You need a pump set up for what you're running. The Rover pump works on TDI engines due to both engines being designed for the same Bosch injection system. An IDI is a different animal.
