Title: Hello! 1.6td newbie here
Post by: Sansocal on August 17, 2014, 02:46:12 pm
Hi there! First I would like to introduce myself. My name is Zak, i'm a student, and I like to work on cars (especially old cars). I have been browsing this forum for a few months because like all old cars, mine is not perfect and problems arise here and there. I drive an 81 Rabbit with an na 1.6d. Recently I came across an old 1.6td at a junkyard and swooped it up. It is basically a td long block, but unfortunately it didn't come with the td injection pump, the vacuum pump, or the td oil filter mount.
So basically my plan is to swap the k14 turbo, manifolds, oil pan, ect.. onto my 1.6na and have an "eco diesel" for this next school year and slowly work on the turbo diesel block. The only two problems I have right now is that I don't know where to get the k14 turbine shaft new (mine had no play, the shaft just looks bad) and also where to find the turbo diesel oil filter mount with the turbo return line.

Anyone have any insight on the turbo diesel oil filter mount? attached is a picture, circled in green is what I am looking for.

Also, I don not take credit for that picture. I found it on google, for all I know someone on this forum could have taken it!

Welcome to the forum. These guys are extremely helpful and kind. Brows around the for sale/needed forum for what you need. Also take a look at the vwvortex forums.

The filter mount is the feed, the return will empty into the oil pan. FWIW you can drill and tap the n/a filter flange, I did mine that way. Finding one in the for sale section works as well.

Thanks for your replies guys! Im glad to hear that I can just drill and tap the existing one if it comes to that.

Should be easy to drill and tap, I think there's a boss for it already there on all the housings. Do you have the fitting that connects the feed line to the oil filter adapter? I think each end is a different size, if you don't you might use a different kind of fitting and have a hydraulic hose shop make you a hose to connect to the turbo.

The TD cars also had an oil cooler, a "sandwich" that goes between the oil filter housing and oil filter, which means a longer oil filter threaded pipe/stud was used. You should figure out a way to run some kind of oil cooler if you're going to use a turbo.
