Title: Crankshaft pulley bolt size
Post by: icyhotpatch on March 24, 2014, 06:57:44 am
Anyone know? Someone moved my stuff and now I can't find it. I'm sure I will when I'm done putting things back together.

Most likely wasting time while at work.

The big one or the 4 smaller ones?

The big one. 1.6l out of an 82.

I don't know the answer off hand but if it was 12pt it is a one time use bolt. 6 point can be reused.

I believe it was a 6pt any place I could look it up?

That's how I feel. Its the same thread as the camshaft and intermediate shaft isn't it?

Somewhere there is the old crank, but I think that was the 1.5, and it had a smaller bolt IIRC. The newer 12 point bolt can be used *1 time* in place of the 6 point bolt you used to have. It is available just look for 97 AHU TDI crank sprocket bolt and follow the bolt's torque procedure.

huh. The 6 point i took out has some slightly rounded corners but i don't know that i want to replace it with a 12 point that can't be reused.

Despite the newer bolt not being reusable, it does its job very well and is quite cheap.  The engineers moved to TTY bolts because they provide a more consistent clamping force.  The bolt itself when properly installed and not reused generally does not fail.

The 12pt I have here is M14 x 47 x 1.5
