Title: 1.5 starting issue
Post by: sk8ordie on March 09, 2014, 05:04:16 pm
My 80 rabbit runs perfect if I pop start it. It will not however, start using the key. You can crank it forever, and it acts like a diesel getting no fuel (yes it's getting fuel). By that I mean, no combustion, rumbling, smoke, etc. just cranks.

Wtf m8?

Thanks

Low compression, methinks. Got blowby when running?

Blow by not so much. She rips for a 1.5 also - Burt dyno analysis.

Interesting. Could I test this by simply unplugging the shutoff solenoid?

No, you need a volt meter or test light.

^^ and someone to turn the key while you look for 12 volts to the solenoid (while it cranks). ;)

I just set the meter against the raised up hood and run the leads out to the points of contact and clip them where they need to be.  But I do have a good selection of jumpers with alligator clips on them.
