hello
been searching for some info about k14-2 and his potential on a vw,but not very much info was available here or in the net(i couldnt find it)
well,i bought the turbo anyway and here are some pics of it comparing it size wise to vw k14 and k24.
enjoy
vw k14 is on car

k24 on right

any thoughts about how it compares with vw oem turbos?
-
Hard to tell with out any measurements. Looks to be in between the 2 size wise definitely has smaller wheels than the k24. Usually the kkk turbos have a numer inside the inlet of the turbine housing which is the ar of the housing
-
on the cold side the turbine as almost the same size as the k24.
the k24 opening is bigger but it tunnels to a smaller size as it reaches the turbine.
going to check for more numbers on it ;)
k14 6702
37mm on intake and 42mm exhaust.
thats the outer edge of the turbines.

based on what we know, the K24 has a somewhat restrictive exhaust side..
and that turbo has a BIGGER cold side, and SMALLER hot side.. so it would lead me to believe that this turbo is gonna be restrictive as well..
-
Sounds like the compressor is nearly the same size as a k24. If the exducer is 60.5mm I wouldn't be surprised if it is actually the same compressor with a smaller exhaust side.

so why would they use a restrictive turbo on a 2.5 tdi engine?
-
What's a reducer?
i meant exducer sorry.
i would guess that the hot side is probably newer and spools faster but flows the same i don't know what stock hp is on a 2.5tdi but alcaid says this turbo would support 170hp on that engine and i would have guessed in that same range 150-200bhp. turbos can work quite differently on different engine.
-
2.5 tdi is rated at 140hp
i was expecting faster spool than k24 but better than k14 at high rpm.
mjf had a setup with this turbo, but i think he never got it sorted right on timing and dynoed.
but he said he was expecting almost 200hp if i recall correctly.
-
Yeah I think faster spool and better flow than k14 is a good expectation, 200hp sounds pretty optimistic tho
-
I was pretty sure MJF had a gt2359
I think with all things in these cars you can paper tune all day and the results always seem to surprise you when you actually put it on the car.

He had that on the one he blew up I thought and a k14-2 on a later car maybe he'll chime in. But I agree u can look at numbers and *** all day they will only get you close.
-
well, not 200hp, he thinks he had the same power as the donor engine,+170hp
a bigger cold side will give what behavior?
hot side is for spool time right?or other factors involved?

My K14 is from MB om606, 177hp stock. Unfortunately I can't remember Inducer/exuder, but It's a little larger than om603 K24

too many k14īs lol
-
yeah and a bunch of different k24's too and even more k26's. i try to be really specific on which one im talking about alteast with t3's anyway since there is 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, and super 60 trims of t3 and about 20 different exhaust housings.

here is my aaz K14

Does the AAZ K14 use 3 brackets and 6 bolts to hold the turbo to the housing?
-
If youre asking about the compressor side then yes, there are 6 bolts and 3 brackets. You can see 2 of the 3 in the second picture.

Thank you Sir!!
i have a K14 off a ecodiesel that has a housing ruined with rust holes...bought a K14 housing without the turbo and found the difference from the 4 bolt/two bracket style of the little K14 i removed from the eco-housing (i didn't get the 3 brackets...damn). Wish i could have gotten the rest of the big K14 too.
The wastegate part number is the same for both kind of turbos BTW...i need to measure the hot sides but they look the same.

the K14 on the EcoDiesel is smaller than the rest of the K14s..
you gotta use K14 eco parts if you have a K14 eco turbo..
or else use the compressor wheel, housing, backing plate, and hardware to attach the standard (bigger) K14 cold side to the K14 eco CHRA, if the bolt pattern on the center housing is the same on both turbos..
i dont know how much of a difference it is between the K14 standard, and K14 eco wheels, but i DO KNOW that there is a difference..

I have used the k14-2 from mercedes om60 on my old car (pug xud), the same as mjf, dont know if it helps but heres the wheel sizes of both rough measured by me, with standard 1.9xud k14 hotside and k14-2 cartridge it made full boost at 3k rpm and the car wasnt the best when dyno'd although still made 173bhp at crank.
Turbine:
xud k14 i=49mm e=42
606 k14-2 i=52mm e=48
Compressor:
xud k14 e=50mm i=32mm
606 k14-2 e=60mm i=43mm

On dyno around 30psi but only because it was unregulated at the time, I got a fair bit more fuel in and better spool at a controlled 30psi but never dyno'd again.

Inducer and exducer size of the k14-2 are really good.
-
are volvo and mercs k14-2 the same?
-
are volvo and mercs k14-2 the same?
No idea. The only thing that could possibly make it not ideal is if it has a very high tip height or a fin design that isn't good for high boost but being that its from a diesel Engine it is probably good, but it's hard to say with out actually seeing a compressor map
-
Left is the K-14 I took off my AAZ, right is the Garrett T3 I installed.

so how this compare with other common used turbos like stock k24,mercedes t3 and such?
how much can i expect from this turbo?
-
inducer is 37mm so very close to the vw k24 37.5mm, so very similar flow potential as far as max power. the exducer is smaller tho, which generally means its not as efficient for higher boost, but 55mm is still a good size and not that much smaller, depending on the design of the fins it could actually be better than the k24. k24 has a much larger turbine but depending on the design and the turbine housing a/r what u have could be faster spooling and better flowing. over all, i would say its a similar turbo, not much of an upgrade if it even is one.
-
ok,thanks...
plans are to build a 1.6/1.9 and would like to have good power numbers but seems that with this turbo this is not going to happen right?
what would be a good turbo for at least 150hp?
i am in europe(different cars/turbos available) but from what cars can i look for the turbo?
-
that turbo should get you close to 150hp. you want a non vnt turbo?
-
i currently have a 2052 on my passat 1.9td but i would like to keep it oldschool on this one amd also its not a daily driver so lag isnt that important.
