I would like some help with my down pipe routing plan.
I would like to be able to fabricate as much of the DP before fitting the engine to the car - that would make many things easier.
The turbo sits like this:

mk2 people, could you show me pictures of how your DP sits with a turbo location similar to this?
Even a picture with just the engine with a DP attached would help.

sadly you gotta drop it in.. thats not a stock turbo set up in any way... but id say a down pipe like a mk2-aaz would be close.. tdi and newer turbo on botto0m..

Hey ya may want to plan your routing,so to speak,and only TACK the bends all together
that way when ya probably need to cut it to mod it you dont need to cut the whole pipe up
what size pipe are ya goin? When i made my 2.5 for my old mk1 stock td setup you coud almost throw something in there that would fit.
3 inch took some careful measuring and cutting on the tdi-m tho
mk2s have fair room,make the dp pointing at least to the ground,then do the last bend to go down the tunnel after its in the car.

what i did on mine.. i used a u-bend coming off the turbo and i cut it at 135º. I then took that addition 45º and flipped it down. If I remember right, I cut it off after that 45º. I then cut like a 80º out of another u-bend and went to the flex pipe. now my exhaust was already at an angle past the downpipe section hence the reason i used an 80º piece. It worked for me to get over the steering rack and subframe with a stock turbo setup. Good luck!

Not the best pics for you but it is something. Also noting this is 3" all the way so it may looked more cramped than some.

Outlet center is about same distance from block as the furthest bolt on mount casting in the same horizontal and vertical plane. About 8" from the bolt center.

This is very helpful. I'll get some measurements of my own done in a while, but now I know the general location of the tunnel
in proportion to the engine block.
Would anyone have a picture where the drive shaft could be clearly seen together with the D/P?

DP clears axles by a mile.. if you run into axle clearance issues, you put the downpipe in the wrong spot..

he correct... but bolting tranny to engine will give idea due to axle flange... axle is more important on a mk1 vs mk2-3... has to fit between axle/rack... later cars the down piipe runs between rack and firewall..

but he asks about routing on a MK2 car.. so, if his DP hits the axles, he did it wrong ;D

You can see in alexgingles in car pic and mine out of car the axle relationship. It is a good 6" above the axle and probably close to that further toward the car than the axle.
In my pic the rear engine mount you can kind of guess how far it is from where the axle to DP would be.

on my car, there is more likelihood for the axle to hit the engine mount, rather than the downpipe..
