I want to add an additional pulley onto the crank pulley's of my idi which I’m installing in my B5 passat gas to diesel conversion. The B5’s air conditioner is mounted on the exhaust side so with a bit of modifications to the B5’s air conditioning mounting bracket I can use the entire B5 system. The only thing I’ll need to do is add the pulley and move the a/c bracket forward accordingly to line everything up.
My question is – is it best to have the new pulley mountable to the existing four bolt crank system, meaning it will sit inside of the alternator/water pump pulley and attach using the same four crank bolts, or could I simply weld it to the alternator/water pump pulley which will extend it accordingly?
Although the belt will be traveling the opposite direction to the alternator/water pump belt - which if anything should equal out the force exerted by the belts, I worry about possible wobbling concerns.
Any thought’s appreciated. Thanks.
