The last several days I have been zipping back and forth here in Portland where there is a sizeable hill climb up US 26 to get to my sons new place. When the car is behaving itself I get right up it. But every so often, more when the car is hot, that I get the clutch slip under hard power situation. Is there an inspection plate on the bottom of these 81 Rabbits I can't see?
What size clutch goes in these bad boys? I looked up on AutohausAZ and get this
Fichtel-Sachs OEM
Clutch Kit; 200mm Diameter x 13/16 ID with 24 Teeth
Please verify original clutch diameter is 200mm, variations exist. 1 kit per car. Limited availability.
OK other than pulling it out to check it how can this be done while still you drive the car till the parts come in?
I might check at Halsey Auto for price but this one was right at 90 smackers.
Any hints here? DAS

There is no way to visually inspect it as the flywheel completely wraps around it. That looks like th ecorrect clutch kit for your ride.

Any hint?
Yes, roll up your sleeves and replace the rear crank seal while you are there.
-
Does Rear Crank Seal need special puller? Or does a hooked pick work to wiggle it out?
-
Best to just unbolt its carrier from the block. Six bolts or so- then you will be sure to get it seated properly

Thanks will peek at the Bentley when I get next to it again.
-
rear crank seal does not sit flush with outer face of carrier the bottom end of seal sits slightly further in the carrier.

This integrated carrier seal is made for TDI's but fits IDI's
