Title: Any recommendations on reman cyl head vendors in Northeast?
Post by: sparkoid on June 27, 2012, 05:33:48 pm
So it turns out my 1.6 na cylinder head is warped and cracked; want to replace it with a turnkey remanufactured head, just don't know how well the local machine shops know VW heads.  Anyone have a experience with Parts Place heads?  Any other suggestions?

Frank has rebuilt  my TDI  (ALH) and TD (MF) heads.  Great work. Excellent reputation.

Does he do aluminum welding?  What is his method of head surfacing, abrading?  Need some work around my AAZ head's water jacket holes.

I don't care how he does it;
before

after

Mine wasn't near that  bad, but it looked just as good when I got it back and after shipping I saved $100 over the local guys who know nothing VW diesel specific.

Well I that answers all my questions!!  VERY impressive work. :o :o  I really like his attention to detail, thoroughness of work, and skill with an aluminum welder.

Time to start saving for head work after my block gets taken care of.

Do you know if it is a mech or hydro head? I have a couple heads at a machine shop and he is excellent, I am not using the mech head, so if it is mech I could have him build it and send it to you. IIRC it would be around 500.00.
