Title: Prepping block for paint; found some possible problems.
Post by: CrazyAndy on June 02, 2012, 03:03:29 pm
Hey all, I have a problem.  Was preparing my block for painting with Rust Bullet metal conditioner on my block and noticed some things.  Good news is this stuff removed surface rust great, and leaves a nice light Zinc coarting for proper paint adhesion, but noticed a few things while doing the back of the block:

First is seem I got a little overspray on my deck.  Nothing that pulled metal off but a slight discoloration, doesn't catch fingernails just very light feeling of resistance when running the pad of my thumb over; is this bad?

Lastly I noticed a small bit of rust on the top of the bore in #4.  Fingernail catches it, but barely.  Re-hone?

Help; running out of daylight and don't know what to do!  Every step I take seems to be making things worse; starting to think I should have let someone else paint the block. :(

I would use a red or grey scotch brite on the deck and the bores being sure to somewhat match the crosshatch. but i wouldn't be too worried.

Did you get all the machine work done at east side auto? It looks good in the pictures. When you get this thing together we should meet up i'd like a ride!

Okay, I'm glad to hear that.  A friend of mine said that even that little bit of rust won't make much difference as it would be broken up by the rings during break-in anyway.  Don't know how true that is, but I'm getting more and more nervous as I proceed with the build steps; first engine and all that.  I'd rather ask and be right than not and be wrong.

And I'll hold you to that ride.  ;)
