I seem to remember that somewhere on a forum online I saw aftermarket heavy duty shift relay levers (that little guy that has a plastic ball on the end). Now I can't seem to find the thread.
Anyone know?

I installed usrt set from German Autoparts in Ny
It is
Delrin bushings
Delrin relay ball
6 metal ball heim fittings in place of the plastic balls
Email me and I'll send pix
[email protected]
A couple things to know
The instructions are - worth less
Very in complete
There are threads that help
The Delrin bushings don't all fit right
Require sanding of the outside or inside to custom fit as needed (I had binding in most pcs)
The heim fittings thread into the links and the weighted bar
I had one slightly off and was binding the shifting
After everything is installed, try to spin the links slightly so theres no binding

I have the USRT kit. I'm looking for the small piece with that the big black ball attaches to, attached to the bottom of the short throw shifter rod.

thats a relay ball..
and yes, lots of people have the missing linkz kit.. it seems to be better quality, and considerably cheaper..
but, i did see that USRT had:
http://www.usrallyteam.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13_34&products_id=362 (http://www.usrallyteam.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13_34&products_id=362)
and that would be PERFECT for alot of us not wanting a full shift kit upgrade..
the USRT full kit did appear to be very good quality also, but it was also 50% more on the price.. you could get a missing linkz kit for ~$100, and the same full kit from USRT was ~$150

I used the USRT kit and love it. I rebuilt the shift box at the same time. Feels fantastic, even without a short throw shifter.

Just bought the USRT kit, and the short throw.
It'll be awhile before the car is drivable for a review.

I'm looking for the metal part of the relay lever, I've got the replacement ball. I did order one from AZ Autohaus, but I thought someone was making a higher quality part......

the actual relay lever then? only shaft that is vertical to the world?
-
Yes the actual relay lever, the short little paddle piece that the black ball goes on.
-
both links will get you to a short-throw one.
USRT is expensive, but well built.

X3!!!! The Rabbit shifts like a dream, even after a 4-5 speed swap with the 4-speed reverse lockout and a ground shift finger to reach all the gears!
The really incredible part was when my selector lever popped off the main shift rod in a bad neighborhood, at night, in the cold, with my 13mm spanner nowhere to be found and no one to hold the gear leaver in place to adjust it. I was able to get the lever on (all 4 on the ground) but off by enough splines that 1st and 2nd were nearly impossible to reach. A quick adjustment of the rear shift rod and it shifts like a dream once more! MUHAHAHAHAHA!

I bought the Missing Linkz kit as well. No frills, but pretty high on the quality, and very easy to install. I also opted for the short-throw arm.
