750 USD?
Is this more than what he'd been quoting people?
-
well sans core they are around 1100 from what I remember.
-
oh? so you're not getting your pump back? basically you're trading and giving them 750 for one that's on the shelf that they've already done?
-
nono if you want to buy one off the shelf. If you send in a pump, they send you back your pump, after being worked on.
-
NA, TD, TDI, or MTDI? There are many flavours of "Giles Pumps" and they have rather different prices...
-
1.6 N/A
here's the email he sent me.
-----------------------------------------
here is a before and after dyno of a 1989 Golf with a bare stock 1.6L NA. you be the judge.
I optimize the fuel delivery, advance curve (increase it) and rpm.
full performance rebuild is $750 + shipping.
countless people who have this pump and can testify to it can't be wrong BTW.

$750 has been the going price for an NA Giles pump for as long as I can remember... including one a friend of mine bought 4 years ago.
-
he does:
Governor mod
timing advance mod
"and other things" (I'm assuming camplate)
-
That is definatley a good price, Just for refrence does anyone know the price for a TD pump preformance rebuild? 1.9 and 1.6 if there is any difference between the two.
-
He quoted us $950 CAD for our 1.6TD pump, so it ended up being around $900 USD. Pretty good deal. Definitely noticed a difference in power after we finished up our rebuild and put on the pump. Quite the peppy car now. The money really is worth it.

Some years back it was 650 CAD.
The currency exchange rate at different times put it to about 600 USD at times. Plus shipping both ways.
I think he went up 100 a couple/few years ago.
Local Bosch fuel shop wants $800 USD for bench rebuild on pre-88 NA Inj Pumps. Thats a standard issue/stock spec rebuild on non-aneroid equipped pumps.
If you need/want a full rebuild - Giles is the clear cut choice.
I think his non-super uber / stock spec builds are 100-150 cheaper than the performance builds.
Another plus is he is thoroughly familiar with these VW pumps and does them very frequently.
-
I paid 750 two years ago. Now that I have my car RUNNING right, I can tell you its worth every penny, and I don't know what he does but he does it well. I think he sees injection pumps on the backs of his eyelids when he sleeps. He must, because his work is perfect, and flawless.
-
Worth every effing penny.
You could spend a lot of money on other parts and not come close to the return you get from one of Giles' pumps. You will not be disappointed.

whats his phone number or his web site?

here is a current price list for everyone to gander at
Normal full rebuild of:
1.6L NA pump....................$650
1.6L Turbo pump............... $750
1.9L Turbo pump................$750 (only if core internals are good)
Performance Rebuild
$750
$950
$950
as above order.
custom build each pump to customers project build. Turbo pumps are built a maximum of 20psi range of boost
if you want more it's more $ according to build requirements.
hope this lets people know of my prices, which BTW have not changed for the last 6 years.
if there was some previous prices lower than advertised it was in US$ and because of the exchange rate.

Just out of curiosity here, but what would a ballpark price be on an AAZ pump built with a 12mm head built for ~40psi/230ish hp?

I'd email him/them as I don't believe he/they are on here too much and also would probably want some detail on your particular project like what turbo, exhaust sizing etc.
They respond to email quickly and are a pleasure to deal with in general.

Giles is good, I bought my pump from him. Recommended!

Giles
Just to clarify, I wasn't ***in' about it, Giles.
I'm sure you're really good at what you do, or else people wouldn't rave about you. Just on word of mouth alone and the number of positive reviews I get from you, I will at some point, use your services. This was more of a informational post from what I had to go on, so I hope no offense was taken.

...and he's a really nice guy to chat back and forth with, I'm surprised how approachable he is, which is another testament and credit to him.

Just as a price comparison. Giles did my pump which was a N/A body suppied with a TD/LDA top along with a TDI 10mm head and plunger. He supplied the cam plate rollers and springs for my super pump.
Total cost was $1200.
No need to look back at doing it with anyone else.
I will say the my local diesel injection shop knows of him and would love for me to bring in my pump. I say sorry, if you want to know whats been done, buy one for yourself.
