Title: Machining squirters in block
Post by: monomer on March 01, 2011, 09:01:18 pm
I have an n/a 1.6d block here, have all the squirters.

Is it doable on a bridgeport with no riser?

Next is, how to locate them? have to drill on and able after the hole is drilled and reamed to hit the oil passage?

Just got a proper 2j bridgeport at work. Can hold part to +/- .002 no problems, this should be easy....

I think it's definitely doable but having long enough tooling could be a problem.
Should prolly mill a flat where they seat though too..
Pics would be nice I'm always interested in how others do things and plan to do a couple blocks when I get around to it.

Got the long endmills and drills required.

I suppose the hole should be reamed to size?

1.8T squirters are MUCH easier to install..they are held in with a banjo bolt.. not a screw.

What's the pop pressure on them?

im not positive, but i think its lower than the diesel ones? someone else should know for sure. i remember reading that they are slightly different, but dont remember witch ones had what break pressures.

i may have read this over on the whoretex..

squirters arent even necessary in most situations..

squirters arent even necessary in most situations..

With the money spent on the rest of the build, totaling $2000+ in just parts alone, it's more then welcomed. Stock td's came with them for a reason, and if I'm pushin' 20PSI through a t3.....

Not worth the risk.

Been to busy with work and other projects to do them. I'll be sure to take a bunch of pics.

i said most applications.. over 20 psi is not one of those applications that they should be omitted..  8)

if you are running around stock fueling an boost pressures (basically factory specs) it hardly seems like theres a need for them..

and the n/a builds ive seen where people throw in squirts, thats less than necessary also..

oil squirters would have saved my engine that one night, maybe.. but i was being a retard.

if you have a good EGT gauge, and you have enough sense to pay attention to it and never get it too hot, you will NEVER need squirts.. its when you have to get the combustion really hot, and keep it there. thats when your pistons start yelling at you to let off, then shortly after, your engine locks up.

basis of post: if your engine doesnt make enough heat to need squirts, its kinda a waste of time IMHO..

again.. just my opinion.

Block's in the back of the car to goto work with me tomorrow.

Boss ok'd the abuse of the bridgeport, just have to be sure they don't need work on it.

Debating on ordering the 1.8t's and selling this set....

as simple as machining the boss flat, drilling a hole, and threading it.  ;D
