Title: Traded my 98 Jetta shell...
Post by: 8v-of-fury on October 19, 2010, 08:34:35 pm
.. for an 84 1.6D with 5spd attached, i think running. and a running 1991 1.6TD, not bad and I have another parts 1.6D in the garage ;)

WHAT TO DO!?

My 81 is getting the TDI, dunno whats happening on the transmission.. Im thinking bolt it to the 020 for now until I can get things sorted out, and then work in the 02A Hydro clutch, and Cable shift.
My 84 is being kept, and one of the n/a's in place of the 1.7 most likely.. as I just absolutely hate the gas engine.. ;) lol I cannot stand 25mpg :p

I was thinking of swapping the TD in to my gf's 90 wolf Jetta.. but hers is the 010 auto-box and finding a diesel starter will not be fun, i would think.

Also if the 90 idea doesn't work out (as i'd really like to get a TDI in the hood of that thing as well ;) ) my younger bro's 84 has a tiring 1.7 as well.. and he wants to get the diesel in his veins as well ;) HAHH IT IS SPPREADING!!! ;)

What should i do?

Carquest has em..  And chances are good you could slip the gasser or manual trans starter back in the box for a core...

you might be on to something here Brett.. However it will make the 1.6 scream behind that 010.. 3500+ on the hwy.

3500 isn't screaming. Maybe yelling at the kids but you got another 1000 RPM before its screaming. Probably would be better milage lower but I wouldn't think it too awful.

how much highway driving does that car see?

if it is a regular on the highway it might not be a great idea, but if it is like mine and only makes occasional trips on the big streets I would not worry too much.

Gf does %95 of driving above 100km/h which means above like 3200.. sadly.. I have a whole 91 with rusted pillars and strut towers that i want to do a full conversion of diesel engine and 5 speed.. but she is not willing to give her car up for that long or really thrilled about driving stick.. lol

On the upside a diesel is about the easiest thing possible to learn stick on since they're really hard to stall...
