Title: Value of running AAZ
Post by: homerj1 on October 18, 2010, 05:01:33 pm
Any thoughts of what the value of a running AAZ engine is?

Ie - 320,000 kilometres, runs wells - new head - 50,000km ago (PO),  newish timing belt and clutch.

just the engine? engine and trans?

I know a member on here who picks up entire AAZ jettas and golfs in ok condition (minor floor rust) in the $1-500 range..

A 320k AAZ alone without trans, maybe a solid $250-350.. more if they are desperate.

Just my opinion though, and what I've seen.. Not bashing your sale or anything. Good luck

Looks like you're in Nova Scotia... so just as another Canadian data point: a running AAZ engine in Edmonton would be in the $400-500 range... entire AAZ cars with body work or other non-engine mechanical issues are going for $750 - $1000, depending on condition.

The value is highly dependent on which side of the border the engine sits.

And which side of the country. People seem to want a mint for any TD VW engine here on the West Coast.

Seems DITTO here in Michigan...  Supply and demand. There is a demand here, but the demand due to EPA Nazi bureaucrats not wanting us to burn something we can make our selves... or get for free from McNasty or a Chinese restaurant  (no tax $$$)

Abbotsford, where i live.
when i was looking for one he wanted to sell me a bare tall block, $700.
I think that was a "friend of a friend" price. he's on the forum here, well, used to be.
VixenTD. He grabs all the aaz's he can get his mitts on i think.

Sorry i should have specified that its a bare tall block.
at least that was the offer he gave me. Obviously things will have changed it was a long time ago... he sells based on supply & demand i think.

i'm happy i live in georgia :D aaz engines without diesel pump and turbine only for 400$(lower end costs 200$, and head costs 200 $  ;D)  , in good condition, directly from germany. if the donor car was driven in georgia than the price lowers dramatically :D in my case i payed 500$ for the whole engine, with turbine and fuel pump. it even had 1 month money back guarantee. but now the guarantee has expired because i haven't started the engine yet :(
