hey so i think i have an idea as to why my car smokes like a semi, im pretty sure the smoke screw has been dicked with over the years because the lock nut has been loosened. does anyone know off the top of their heads how many turns (while bottomed) out it is? or how to set it to where its supposed to be, thanks.

It's gonna be different from pump to pump to pump... try backing it out 1/2 a turn at a time and see what happens. You may have to adjust your idle as you do so.

as the smoke disappears, so will the power...

True, but only at a certain point. If you have the "max fuel screw" in to much truning it out can maybe give you a bit more power, since it was being flooded with to much diesel before.
The best way to adjust the pump is to play with your max fuel screw and your idle as it is running. It is very easy to here when you have it in the right range and the idle sounds nice.

oh im talking about the scerw on top of the lda, when i got the car the jam nut was loose and thats a indication of it being messed with.

just undo it until it's where you want it to be. turn it out until it doesn't effect the idle at all.
It should only add fuel on boost. if it was pushed down to the point where it smokes like crazy just undo it like Vince Waldon suggested. take all of ... 20 minutes and a few laps around the block to get it right probably.
