Title: Max Fuel Screw question...

Went to adjust max fuel and idle and noticed the max screw isn't making contact with anything.  Is that the way it's supposed to be or is that lever in the picture that is currently underneath and totally cleared by the screw supposed to be stopped by the screw?  And, if so, am I correct in assuming that in it's current position the max fuel is turned all the way up (as a counter-clockwise turn of the screw until it was all the way out would achieve the position above assuming the lever was actually making contact with the screw)?

Does my question make sense?

The lever is max rpm or the screw is max rpm?  So how should that be adjusted (what is the proper way to adjust max RPM)?  And then which is the Max Fuel screw?  I know the one closest to the engine is idle.

Throttle cable is loose/stretched if it'll not hit the max stop pictured when on the floor.  Should be able to turn the throttle lever CCW by hand and see it contact.  Or I'm missing something from the photo's.
Either way on a stockish NA it likely don't make a lot of difference, don't loose sleep over it.

Yeah.  All that makes sense now.  I think I found the max fuel screw, too.  For some reason, I can't find anything about it in my bentley.  Guess they don't want me messing with it.

I'll take a pic in the morning and post it just to be sure.

On that throttle/rpm/mix lever, where should it be positioned?  I have a feeling it got moved...by me.

Had a similar situation on my aaz.

The throttle cable was loose\stripped threads at the IP, giving me fast idle at warm temps and no max. throttle when floored. I tridon clamped it and it was like adding hp -  with burnouts in all gears........   :)

Adjusted max fuel screw.  Now I get a little more oomph and a little black smoke at WOT. Not too bad, though.

Still wondering how to set that rpm/load/mixture lever.  Should it be making contact (all the way CCW, as in the picture) as it is now?  All the way CW?  Right in the middle?

Bentley says set the throttle stop screw by running engine with a tach to WOT and adjusting to whatever the redline spec is. :)
I'd disinclined to do that myself.

For those of you who WILL fiddle with the max RPM screw, it will do lots of good to the 4000rpm & onwards of the engine, you will still get some reduction of the fuelling as you get to the redline, so maybe you wont melt the engine, but it is good fun. The U.K. emmissions tester (M.O.T.)  puts a smoke reader in the exhaust, and to rev the engine to the governed redline several times. If you forgot to put the screw back to standard, there will be lots of shrapnel to be swept up. ;D

So I did some observing (funny how eyes work) and realized the rpm/load/mixture lever adjusts all the time depending on where the throttle is.  Makes total.  sense.   So that's solved.  I did up the max fuel, moved out the max rpm screw and got my engine back to idle with the idle screw, and the whole thing feels so much peppier.  Only a bit of smoke at wot, but no freight train, and temp gauge reads just as cool as always, though it's water temp and not egt.  All in all, so far it's been a productive mod.  Now I just gotta send my pump and injectors to giles.  Honestly, who needs a turbo? ;)

Yes, of course.  I'm just constantly amazed at how much fun one can squeeze out of such a small engine with simple, low-cost mods.  Once I open up the exhaust and add the Giles, I'm gonna be having a blast on my daily commute.  I already am.
