Title: A/C pump in MK1 Rabbit - AAZ convertion
Post by: 1.9TD Caddy on July 25, 2010, 12:21:21 pm
Helllo all,
I finally installed my rebuilt AAZ in my 81 caddy. The problem I am facing now is that the A/C pump will not fit. The space between the bracket and front frame is too small. I used the braket from the original AAZ engine. Do have to cut out the front fame? Does any one have any ideas? Thanks!

You have to cut the frame on a TDI engine w/AC. I thought I read online about using the older AC brackets.

There is fella on Fred's TDI page who is doing a TDI w/ac into a caddy. He has knotched the frame, but I don't know what hoses he is using. Said he was going to install a Corrado dash witha Passat heater/ac box. I want A/C in my Caddy and a MTDI engine. Wonder if you can swap A/C pulleys v belt-serp.?

My set up has the serp pulley with the I.9 TD bracket. I dont think the v belt set up will make a difference. I wonder if your Buddy has a pic of the notch to share.

Thanks to Dieselherb1 I tracked down a post on TDICLUB.com. It looks like to install your A/C pump on an AAZ set up in a  Mark1 rabbit you will have to notch out the forward frame so the pump can fit. Here is a link to a tread where it has been done.
