What the highest safe sustain egt? Also what is the highest temporary egt?

Probably 1200 sustained and 1500 peak. I wouldn't want to go past either of those

literally 1500 peak for no more than 2-5 seconds as this heat will start to melt the piston crowns, valves, and head.

A turbo block and head can sustain 1350F for quite a while, but that amount of time is unknown :P So why chance it... Stay under 1200 all the time and you will be perfectly safe.

1250*f is the generally accepted limit for engines with aluminum alloy pistons.

Y'all should quantify where those EGT's you're quoting are measured from.

Hi,

sounds i bit conservativ or?

In my bmw 524td the egt goes up to 1800°F, when i pull it hard through three or four gears.
In the higher gears i use the egt gauge as shiftlight, when the temperature goes above 1650°F,
so the 1800°F will be only for less than one second.

As i know the stock egt for that bmw engine under full load is 1470°F and also the stock tdi egt
from the actual engines (with 24 psi boost) are in that range.

Have you ever heated a piece of metal red and then hit the oxygen? It
would not look pretty in my engine.You must have pistons made of berylluim. Where is the probe located in the engines you are talking about.

1800*f and you arent blowing chunks of piston or rings out the tail pipe? wow..

Hello,

for clarification, i did not drive constant 1800°F as egt in my old bimmer, this is the max peak temperature which occurs for less than an second, when i pull it hard through all gears from 1. to 4. gear.

No metall part has 1800°C to that time, because there is not enough time for all solid parts to take the energy from the exhaust gas.
The sensor is installed upfront the turbo in the exhaust manufold.
