Title: turbo diesel clutch
Post by: myvolkswagen on July 14, 2010, 11:43:55 am
Anyone know how much power a stock sachs 200mm clutch is good for? Im not sure what clutch to buy. Im hoping to have around 100-120 wheel hp from my 1.6. I have seen people are using the clutchnet. Is there a kit that i can buy with the pressure plate and clutch and flywheel as one?

Hello,

the d=200 mm clutch is good for nearly nothing. If you open the gearbox and have the clutch in front of you
take your opportunity to change to the 210mm clutch.

Bets regards

I agree that the 210mm clutch is superior. However, you will need to get a matching 210mm clutch, pressure plate and flywheel.
I ran into this issue. And because of that I have a recently machined (within 20 days) 200mm flywheel for $70 if you're interested in staying with the 200mm set up.

I am running 16v pressure plate, 8v disc, and lightened flywheel - concept1 sells it as a kit

Bildon motor sports sells really nice ones if you don't mind waiting a month to get it...

did you get the 6 puck sprung 020 8v kit? What did you do for your flywheel?

I did.
I found a 210mm flywheel at a junk yard and had it resurfaced.
Almost any gas engine flywheel will be 210mm. I believe every 2.0L had a 210mm flywheel. but i may very well be wrong.
Bring a tape measure with you and measure there. it should be easy to tell.

Also. the 210's have 9 bolts and the 200's have 6 bolts that hold onto the pressure plate.

clutchnet 6 puck sprung...all the # should be there for you. Basically anything 210mm with the small spline will work if you have the correct flywheel and pressure plate.

I think that bildon seems like the best deal cuz i dont have a whole bunch of money to spend on a clutch

The timing marks on a 210mm gasser flywheel work with the diesel?

A strong pressure plate requires more pressure against the thrust bearing in the engine.

Pushing the clutch when you start it,
there is no oil pressure and little oil on the thrust bearings to protect them from the added pressure.

Might be better off with a stock pressure plate,
with a few more straps
and a 190mm 4-puck.

Is it really that bad for it? everyone on here seems to run the same type of setup

just start the engine in neutral. then there is no load on the dry thrust bearing.

Right, it's a good habit even without a stronger pressure plate..

if i get a vehicle with a "push clutch to start" feature, i take and connect the 2 wires coming from the clutch switch.. then no clutch push is necessary to start it. plus, every time you push the clutch in on something, then start it up cold, there is no oil in the thrust bearing on initial start up.. dry bearings with alot of load against them do not make for a long life piece..

I really like my set-up which a few guys on here have as well.  The 16v PP/8v disc/8v FW.  And it revs a little nicer cause the 8v flywheel is lighter then the stock diesel one.  It also has a nice feel, doesn't grab to hard but you can still have a good "launch" if you wanted too.

Starting to regret not getting the excess material removed from my flywheel... and i haven't even driven it yet.
