An 83 240D Turbo Diesel Mercedes just came into a local yard. (manual tranny version - cool). Its a 5cylinder if memoery serves.
Is this one of the turbos that can be used, or hybrid'ed, to work with our VW TD applications ?
What about the Injectors - are they close to VW TD pop specs ?
Thanks for any insights

It must be a 300D, 240D's were 2.4 litre NA 4cylinders. I can't really help you with telling if the turbo will work or not, but I'd get on the Mercedes forums and sell that transmission!

Injectors have the wrong shape spray pattern for VW - they'll work (in that the engine will run) but there's been reports of tings being damaged by running them (precups blowing out of the head in specific)
Just a wild guess but the turbo is probably a bit large for a VW.

It seemed a bit strange having 240D on one side of trunklid, and Turbo Diesel on the other side, but that was the deal. I thought it would say 240TD or 300TD for examples. But.... i'm no MB follower.
I'll look it over better and price some of the stuff, planning to go again Wednesday and get some VW stuff. All of a sudden they have an abundance of Mk2's, about 8 of them. 1 of them is even a NA diesel with an ACH tranny. One of the gassers has ACN tranny.
The rest are ASF. Usually lucky if there are 1 or 2 Mk2's. I missed an 83 Rabbit 2door diesel they had just crushed. :(
I'm wondering about the pop pressures on injectors.
I know MB is diffy nozzle, I have 2 sets of new Bosch VW nozzles.

Turbo is a traditional T3 flange, not the VW-specific T3. Plus, the compressor is the same .42 A/R, the turbine wheel is bigger. If you had a T3 manifold and a new downpipe and custom drain/feed lines, it would work. It will spool later with the bigger turbine wheel but you can get potentially more efficiency at higher RPM and higher boost levels.

You are looking at some kind of mongrel there..there were no turbo 240Ds and no manual 300D turbos...

You guys are good !
Finally made it back to that boneyard today.
The Turbo Diesel car IS a 300D - Automatic.
Sorry for the goof.
The manual tranny was in a 240D.
In my defense, both cars look about alike and are same pale beige color exterior. I wasn't taking notes on paper that day as I normally do.
I wanted the TboDzl emblem from decklid, but it won't open. Have to take a sharp putty knife next time and chisel it off.
I wanted the Becker AmFm Cass, in hopes it would fit an un-cut Rabbit dash bezel - but someone grabbed it already.
*So how is it you guys know these cars, but don't know the bar pressure of their TD Injectors ? help a brother out here if you can.
Underhood it is still untouched so far.

I think turbo is 150 BAR but that's a 50% guess. I haven't worked on a lot of MB stuff. If you swap nozzles the pressures will change anyways. They use the same shims as the VW injectors.
