Title: timing IP when engine is warm
Post by: James8485 on April 18, 2010, 06:22:31 pm
so car was smoking like a bandit and had no power,,,,,,ran rough and dies when you let off the gas.....

so im guessing IP is really retarted.......so i went a bit each time pushing the pump towards the head......i got to about half before i started to notice it running better.........but by this point engine was warm/hot as i took out for a few test drives to make sure it ran ok......but i did notice when pulling out cold start lever it didnt change to much if any at all when engine was running.....
anywyas came home tonight so motor was cold and tried to start and yes it ran better then before but it is not running how it did after makin adjustments when hot......

does it sound that it still a bit retared??? i just worry if i go to much it will ilde ok when cold but when hot be to much?? does that sound dumb??

anyways i dont have much more to push the pump towards the head and i really dont want to take the belt off as i dont have right tools to put it back on.

Doesn't really take special tools to put it on.

If you have the valve timing good then it's easy to hop a tooth with the IP.

I'd say advance it a little more, when cold these things tend to run pretty clackety in order to be smooth. They quiet down after warming up.

well i went out there this morning so motor was cold and i pretty well had to push the pump all the way towards the head as i think its out a tooth but i dont want to take the belt off as i dont have that tool you need to put the tension on the belt then lock it in with an open end wrnech. so i started it and with the cold start out and it fired right up ran good....i pushed it in (cold start) and it spudderd a bit with when cold it normaly does but i pulled it backout it raised the RPMs to allow to run smoother!

so im happy but its not that cold right now so winter will tell... and just drivin it im sure deffinatly alot clankyer then my AAZ ha ha

is fuel milage a good sign of timing ok, like i know it got 1000+ when other pump was on and all running good.
i guess time will tell.... thanks alot for all who commented im sure alot of people come to these types of furums for alittle noob help
thanks again,
James
