Title: Clutch....
Post by: kaneb on February 04, 2010, 03:34:18 pm
Im getting to the point where i want to figure out my clutch set-up.

I was going to run a 16v pressure plate and 8v disc and a eurospec lightened flywheel. But my shop here can't order in the flywheel till spring.  I'm curious what other flywheel will work well with this set-up.  Engine is a 1.6TD running higher boost and more fuel.  Tranny is the stock 83 020.   Engine is still being built.  I want something that can handle more then the stock diesel clutch but still feels good.

TIA--

use a gasser flywheel, just make sure it has a TDC mark.

Ok. So i am installing the clutch today.  Set-up is as follows. 16v pressure plate. 8v clutch. 8v flywheel.  Problem is when i line up the dowels from the flywheel to the pressure plate my flywheel bolts don't all line up.  When i line up the flywheel bolts the dowels don't line up.

Anyone have any ideas?  Or something similar happen?

Ok diesel has 6 flywheel bolts. gas has 9.  With the new clutch setup 6 fit around symmetrically I torqued them up but my clutch disc isn't held in "snug" it's still loose any ideas???

hopefully i get this sorted out soon.

Either the FW has been machined to much or the PP is not fully seated to FW  ::).
You are using a 9bolt FW and PP right?

dont use a diesel pressure plate or flywheel. use a gas pressure plate for the 9 bolts. and use the gas flywheel cause its like installing a lightened flywheel. they are way thinner than diesel wheels.

i would not just leave 3 bolt holes there with nothing threading into them. and im pretty sure that only the 200mm pp's had 6 bolts.

Yeah something's wrong here for, jumped the gun, excited to finsh it.  All nine holes line up but then the dowels dont, dowels line up 6 fw bolts fit.  So i believe i have to get my part numbers checked out this afternoon.  I dont think the flywheel is right,  I have sachs pp and sachs clutch disc but then a luk flywheel and the only thing i can think of is wrong parts were ordered(check part #'s) or the different name brands don't work together.  Frustated cause the drive train would have been done this weekend if not for this, also i'll be out $100 also.

I should've ordered a clutch kit instead of ordering it seperatley i guess.
