Ok, i have been looking but havnt found it in the forum. I have a 94 golf TD and it definately needs an exhaust replacement. I first off wanted to know what the size is on the stock downpipe and exhaust. I will delete everything in the exhaust system, just run a muffler. In regards to that, do i even need a muffler? just wondering because i read a post that said The td without a muffler isnt that loud? So I need a shopping list.
What size pipe should i use 2.5 or 3 inch
where can i get a downpipe to fit the new exhaust?
sorry if any of these questions seem way to easy, i have never owned a diesel and have never had a turbocharged car before.
Show me your modded Golf MK3 TD exhaust.
cheers

does that help??? :-)
its all 2.5" mandrel bends. easy as pie job to do. ....with the T2/k03 its dead quiet. with a T3 its still quiet, but has a nice sound when really up it.

holy ***, thats sweet. So you really can just make a "straight" pipe. I wish i could make a downpipe, i am sol there. Do you think there would be any benefit to putting a 2.5" exhaust onto the stock downpipe? i just think i will be replacing the exhaust, but downpipe i think will need to stay stock.

you would get some gain i'm sure but really not as notable as if you make a downpipe too.
we kind of went overkill with the DP by re-using the factory lower support bracket - i'm sure this is a little more than it needs, so long as you have all the exhaust hangers further back doing the job properly, and a good flex joint AFTER the DP. i really feel that the DP doesnt need a flex at all, and have subsequently deleted the flex from mine with no hassles - but, there is a lon flex after the DP, as you see.
