Title: Using gasser exhaust with diesel
Post by: overdrivegear on December 23, 2009, 12:22:51 pm
I have a 1.6 NA that I'm putting into a cabriolet and was wanting to know if I will be able to reuse the gasser exhaust system.  Will the header bolt up to the diesel head and not interfere with the diesel intake?  I do have a diesel header that has the bowl style but it will not bolt up to the gasser down-pipe.  So my options are to use the diesel header and find a downpipe that will work or simply reuse the existing system.  Any ideas?

The 8v diesels and the 8v gassers have the same port spacing and approximately equal port sizes, it will bolt up.

You might want to put something in place of the cat, if it's still around; diesel soot will clog them up in short order.

Yeah, it'll bolt up. There's a slight chance that you may have to do some minor grinding to get it to clear the diesel intake manifold but I doubt it. I have a gasser exhaust on my Golf and it was 100% bolt on.

Definitely get rid of the cat.

isnt the gasser exhaust smaller?
and doesnt the cat clog up quite quick if you have power going through it?
i would take the resonator off too, the one on my audi 5000 weighed over 20 lbs.
