im building a replacement head for my AAZ, and ive got a choice of turbo units, so i was wondering which is the better unit, the KKK or the Garrett?
-
is the T2 water cooled? i would lean towards the K14.
-
it was a water cooled unit, but i never ran it water cooled
-
According to some they are VERY similar.
-
How similar are we talking?
i want it to be strong but be able to give me the 45psi im used to
-
anything over 20psi on the K14 would be exceeding thermal efficiency of said turbo.
Might think of getting a VNT or K24
-
Ha ha. ;D
why?
-
The peugeot 306 came with both those turbos.
On that application its been found that the t2 will spool quicker and is a more robust turbo than the k14.
K14 more easily adjusted however.
General consensus with 306 owners is that the t2 is better.
Im not sure if that helps you vw owners but i htought id give my 2cents.
-
I dont even know i could have even got my k14 to 30psi let alone 45psi!
26psi was the most i ever seen with wastegate wound in as far as possible....you could tell it didnt like it either....
Is it even possible to reach 45psi on a k14?????
-
the t2 i was running origonaly has expired, and the k14 was a steal, but you guys recon that itll die a death if i use it like a t2?
-
If the k14 was a steal then you may as well throw it on and hope for the best?
In the meantime while it is on you could search out a t2 should the unfortunate happen?
How did you manage 45psi out of a t2????
-
all boost reliefs eg BOV, wastegate etc blocked off tight, bit more fuel and alot of right foot
-
You should be looking for a K24 or a T3 i'd say.
-
hold on 1 sec, is it 15psi to 1 barr or 7.5??
ffs, my heads up my arse again, 45psi is over 2 barr isnt it?
my T2 made 1,5barr, so thats... 22.5 psi?
-
1bar is 14.7psi i think...
-
cheers anto, thats where ive been going wrong! i had it in my head that 1 barr wasd 15psi?! :-\
-
1.5 bar x 14.7 psi/bar = 22.05 psi.
-
thanks vince :)
so, whats the safe running pressure on a k14?
-
How long did you run your T2 at 22psi before it went? I have mine set up at 17psi but now I'm thinking that more boost might be safe for this turbo.

about 4 months
