First, read THIS POST (http://www.vwdiesel.net/forum/index.php?topic=22328.0) by GEE-BEE; offering hose construction services.
Now, to keep things orderly, I want to start a separate thread to gather signatures for a group buy on VANAGON DIESEL coolant hose sets. I'll be providing a master set for the molds. No set price yet, but estimated between $275-$325. We need at least 25 buyers for optimum pricing.
Please spread the word to all Vanagon owners you know, original Diesel and IDI/TDI conversions will all be able to use this hose set. New rubber sets are NLA here.
Firmer pricing will be set once the mfg. sees the actual hoses.
-
I will sign up for a set, particularly if it follows 1983 Diesel Vanagon hose group. I would encourage an interface to the 1983 Coolant Reservoir as the 1982 version didn't support the coolant level switch. The hose connections were larger than the '82 and sleeves to fit the earlier version are easier to implement than necking up a size.

I'm in for a set of 1982 1.6NA hoses for ~$300. Might be in for 2 sets??
Will.
-
Uh-Oh. ::) Any other differences through the years? I'm using a Euro JX hose set like this:

I would be in for a set just let me know how and when.
Thanks
Eric
-
Keep me on your list too! I use a coolant level switch res so i'll be following that discussion too.
thanks for championing this btw!
-
I need a set for my 82,that set looks larger on the ends of the hoses.,
-
I'm in for a set also. I have an '82 diesel westy that is being converted from the original 1.6 na to a '90 turbo ecodiesel.
-
Here's some eye candy for you; some of the manufacturer's other offerings... these are for a MKIII VR6

I'm in for at least one set. I prefer the JX as well. Is there a proposed completion/delivery date (roughly)?
Thanks.

How do the JX hoses compare to the TIICO hoses at Van Cafe?
http://www.van-cafe.com/home/van/page_150 (http://www.van-cafe.com/home/van/page_150)
I'm a big fan of a universal hose that would work with the smaller (and NLA) '82 and '83 coolant pipes, as well as the smaller '82 coolant reservoir. Stepped ends could work.
I'm am curious, however, about hose length differences between the '82 stock mounts (2" forward) and the '83 and later mounts. I guess there could be length differences between the '83 coolant pipes and the later larger plastic pipes as well..

Those arent silicone, the mfg can always make the hose longer to meet the need's of both models, they can be reduced at the end's also for those model's
It's the bends we have to be careful about
Please use silicone type clamp's: breezeclamps.com
I will have more info on clamp's from another vendor for the silicone hose kit, it will be a seperate item....
Cheer's to all for starting a solution to a small problem..
I would consider these hose a Lifetime Type

Interested in 2-3 sets
-
Would it be worth it to make the front radiator hoses as well? Not the 14' fore-aft hoses, just the radiator connections...
I can't imagine what the long hoses would cost to make and ship... :o
-
it's amazing there isn't a company in North America who can make these and be price competitive.
-
THERE IS NOW !
Just wait and see....
-
I will definitely buy 1 set. I prefer the euro 1.6TD (JX) hoses.
-
Count me in for 2 sets Elliot54
2- 82' westi-diesels
-
I have Chris at Van-Cafe sending in some obsolete hose's for duplication also
I hope this help's everyone..
Cheers

Is there any consensus on the differences between the hose sets for the euro JX & whatever else exists?
-
what's the significance of TUV certification for a state side van? seems like a way to cut down on the price some.
-
I will take 1 set for euro 1.6
-
It's a Euro spec like : SAE or DOT
US Spec : SAE J20R3
The tooling is what makes assy's pricey

I would be interested in a set. I have a converted van and '82 or '83 hoses would probably both work with some mods on my part.
-
What year are the obsolete hoses? '82 or '83?
Here's a shot of the '82 and another with size differences labeled on the TIICO hoses - all VERY rough measurements.
Maybe use the '82 octopus hoses for routing, since it seems to take the injection lines into account - and also the lower return hose, since it bends around the fuel filter - but step the ends so gas to diesel conversions with the larger coolant pipe and expansion tanks could pop them right in? ('83 has the larger tank but the smaller pipes)
Perhaps combine the later w.pump to exp tank hoses so the larger part routes around the engine mount like an '82, but it looks like the heater line on the JX/TIICO might be going around the later-style expansion tank. (Can anyone confirm how the later style heater hose fits on a stock '82 engine?)
I'm also wondering if there's a reason why the '82-'83 style hoses aren't being used for diesel conversions, other than being NLA - any design issues?
Anyone got a STOCK 1983 HOSE pic they could share? Differences with the '82?
I have Chris at Van-Cafe sending in some obsolete hose's for duplication also
I hope this help's everyone..
Cheers

Stock '82 hoses:
TIICO gasser hoses (which look nearly *identical* to the JX Euro turbo diesel hoses - except for the one bend in the straight hose) Measurements are from the '82 stock hoses, but in the same places:

THE FIRST TWO GOING TO TOOLING ARE :
025-21-062E LIST , STOCK 82.69
025-121-062 F LIST, STOCK EPDM TYPE 139.90
There will two pictures to compare, stock versus Silicone
Black
Iam probly doing 25 each on these, that way there is no tooling cost ( mandrell )
I belive there are apart of the Tiico kit

I'm confused: why are you starting with these? I thought we were talking diesel hoses here.
-
I know , but these where the first sent in , Iam waiting for a complete Diesel set to arrive, it's nice to see the original and oem price and compare quality for a first article on the silicone type.
I look forward to various model's..
AAZ/ TDI etc.

Euro DV set shipped out Friday, you should get it Mon or Tues. I included my front hoses also, which are '86 WBXer style, they don't have the uprights that early DV hoses do...
FWIW, comparing the pic above of the TIICO set to my set showed them to be practically identical, the only difference being a slight offset twist to the ends of the small single z-shaped hose.
-
Front's and Tiico received and shipped to tooler..
Gee-Bee
-
Not to threadjack, but is there a set already made for VR6 engines? I know there is a Samco VR6 set, but it's very expensive.
Thanks,
Brendan
-
I'll take 3 sets of euro DV hoses.
-
SAMCO IS ALREADY 40 % MORE FOR THE EXCHANGE RATE: % POUND TO DOLLAR...
Euro model VR6 are different
Gee-Bee
Jetta MKIII and AAZ engine are next..
-
I'm a bit confused? Are you making a whole bunch of different hoses, or a universal-type hose? Have you sent any of the original '82 or '83 style diesel hoses to be tooled? (The TIICO hoses are actually gasser ones) I guess I'm wondering if you're making any with the narrower ends that would work for the stock '82 setup? Do you need some '82 or '83 hoses? - I can ask around..
-
Right now I have a set of Tiico hoses going to tooling, I have a set of MKIII and engine AAZ coming
So a complete set would be correct

-
By a "whole bunch of hoses" I meant multiple sets (one that would fit the stock diesel?) or just the AAZ/TIICO hoses which fit the gas to diesel conversions? By universal I meant a set that would fit both the later AAZ/etc gas>diesel conversions and the stock setup (stepped ends for the smaller pipes?)
If you're interested in supplying a set that fits the stock engine, I'm sure I/we could get some together.. I may have a set available to loan out after the holidays (possibly a "new" rig).
Thanks,
Will.
-
TICCO ASSY'S ARE 375.00 PER SET, advise color
We need a firm order of 25 set's so there is no 2600.00 tooling charge.
This for the TIICO Motor , see them at Vancafe.com
-
BusDepot has a nice diagram and parts list showing which hoses are NLA for the 82-83 diesel Vanagons.
That little bypass hose #8 is less than $6, but the octopus hose #6 and the expansion tank/heater return to water pump hose #9 are NLA, while the radiator/oil cooler (068121073C '83-'84 - gotta check the '82) to pump hose is still available, it's pricey at $120.

-
Aaallll righty then...
Are we ready to start the ordering process? We need 25 paid-up orders to get the good no-tool prices. I had a lot of interest on The Samba as well, shouldn't be an issue.
Is everyone recovered from the holidays enough to start this back up? :D
-
Im ready.
-
Can you clarify if these are TIICO inline gasser hoses or JX turbo diesel hoses (bypass is different - anything else?) Also, are these tooled/adapted for the '82/'83 stock diesels?
-
I'd like a set for a TDI conversion. Black?
-
I'd like clarification as well please.
-
Ask Syncro
he has pricing
-
The set I sent to you is from a JX turbodiesel Vanagon.
-
how do i get in on the group buy? need a set for my '82 diesel being upgraded to an mTDI.

I'm in...please let me know where, when and how much.

Diesel Vanagon Coolant Hoses - The Engine Compartment Explained.
I just spent the last 2 days figuring out the diesel-vanagon coolant
hoses amd differences throughout the years. Finished up the funky engine compartment hoses (the hardest to
fabricate) I couldn't find much info on the 84s. Please let me know if there's any errors:

I've been following this thread for a while here and on the samba and don't fear guys, it's not dead just yet. I just got off the phone with Guy at GEE-BEE and I agreed to pony up the ching for the entire order, yep, $9.5k. What this means is Grease Works will be taking orders for these directly and we should have stock in 3-4 weeks. I will honor the group price offering of $355 incl. clamps until the first 29 sets are gone, then they will go to the standard retail rate of $399--I know it's a lot of money but is the last set of hoses you will ever buy for your Vanagon!
Advance orders can be made here:

Thanks to Syncroincity and others for laying the ground work for these. And thanks to Guy for loving VWs as much as the rest of us fruitcakes on here.

Already done and on the shelf.

Trouble is that my insurance company won't insure me for exports, which is a bit of an arse.
There are ways and means though.
-
Which is exactly why we had to do it ourselves. :-* Plus the fact that your moneys is worth double our moneys... not a cheap prospect combined with the astronomical shipping from the UK.
Cheap Yankee copies about to flood the market, yarrrgh! (http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff287/mccavittj/The_Knights_Who_Say_Ni_by_livius.gif)

Yep, my insurance company is one of very few that will actually insure me!
I have such a weird business, with many facets that it is a strange risk and many just won't quote.
I can't help the exchange rate either, nor the stupid amount that shipping companies want to charge, we don't profit from it, simply pass the charge on at cost.
But, seriously, if there is a order worth sending I'm sure we can work something out. I can either ask SFS if they will send on my behalf or I can ask a buddy who also sells car parts in the UK if he can send for me.
;)
-
I get 40~50 kg shipments via Fedex Express for 110-120 GBP insured, all the time, from Propex Heatsource UK. The USD is actually doing quite well against the GBP at this time, compared to where it was a couple years ago. 1.0 USD = 1.536 GBP
-
Arranging collection with FedEx at your end is a lot cheaper than us doing it here, considerably.
Cheapest way I have found of getting stuff in and out is to use a 3rd party shipping company, something like www.interparcel.com (http://www.interparcel.com) they use all the big boys and have big discounts in place, then they sell on much cheaper than DHL, Fedex, UPS etc do.
Worth a look.
-
Too late baxter , There in production , various color's avail
100 % s/s smooth band clamp's on all hose ends included
They will be a stock item in the future for greaseworks
next on my list AAZ coolant Engine hoses ( 3 )

No probs, I just know how expensive the tooling is that's all as I have just paid for it!
lol, winter project that was.
Now the tooling is made and we have a float of stock we just top up now as needed, sold a surprising amount.
Yeah, we can have colours too and have a supply for Mikalor clamps.
Not had much time for forums lately, been mental at work but load is spread now as I have an employee that goes above and beyond the call of duty so things are calming down again now so I have some spare time again, wish i had seen this sooner.
I was just trying to say I have already done this and before you get stuck with trying to recover tooling costs then maybe we could work some sensible discount and a work around for the export thing as I'm not sure how much call there is for those hoses over there, we had them out of the factory here so they sell reasonably well.
I will say one thing though as I am due to have my tooling adapted soon.
some have 32mm front to rear coolant hoses, some have 38mm front to rears (metal or plastic) It would be worth having the tooling made to suit 32mm hoese, then have a sleeve fitted over so the same tool can be used to make 38mm hoses too.
Just a thought.
Simon.
:)

Tooling was paid for with 30 set's, same with the AAZ coming
With your pound to dollar, it's cheaper here for you
I have sold over one thousand set's to Toyota, I own the tooling for Tundra and Sequoia model
