I'll be replacing the broken p/s engine mount on my 82 Rabbit. AutohausAz didn't stock the HDs, just the standard Meyle mount.
Some have said to fill them with epoxy to make them last longer and I've heard a few people say to put a poly insert in. Who's done any of the above and what are your opinions? As much of a pain as it's going to be to swap the mount, I only want to do it once.

I think i read somewhere that poly mounts on the side will shake your car to smithereens... because those two hold most of the weight of the engine i assume?... or it was the other way...
at any rate near solid mounts on a diesel are probably something you want to steer clear of.

Poly mounts are MISERABLE on the left and right side mounts.. The best combo I've found is stock mounts in those two, and poly on the front and rear mount.. It isn;t unbearably rattly, yet because the front and rear mounts are firmer the engine doesn;t rock around in there as much and keeps the left and right mounts lasting longer...

I've always heard the same about the side mounts, but was a bit curious when I've heard others state otherwise.
I've always run the front poly, but have heard the rear poly block will just break into chunks and disintegrate.

Polys would probably be fine on a gasser.. Maybe on a MK2 and up...
I have the poly rear mount, and so far so good, but I'm only running an N/A too..

Approximately how long, and what mileage is on the rear?

Buy a heavy duty mount from Techtonics. I have 60k on mine and it's still fine.

Probably about 60K miles.. I put it in there about a year and a half ago...

I have the prothane passenger and driver side mounts and the heavy-duty front and rear. It has a good amount of vibration at idle, with the rpms up a bit it's not bad. I had all four and it was a little bit too much.
What other vehicle have you driven with poly/delrin/solid motor and/or transmission mounts?
-
Only gas Rabbits. The fronts and rears were poly and the sides were Scirocco 16v mounts; much heavier to deal with the extra weight.
I wonder if I trim off everything on the insert (other than the bottom 2 prongs), if it'll be tolerable. Otherwise I'll probably just run the standard that I bought and do the front & rear in poly.

I've been in a mk4 TDI (which uses a similar mouting style to a mk1) and he had full poly. It was honestly like sitting in one of those massaging chairs. Once the RPMs got up a bit it smoothed right out though. I don't think any CD player would have any chance of operating in that car.
In my mom's mk1 Jetta I put in new motor stock motor mounts and it's just fine. 1.6 NA w/ auto. It probably has less then 2000kms on it

i tried the rear mount on my jetta, the stiffness was nice, but the vibrations were insane, but i've read u can get away with polly everything but the rear with out it being too crazy. but i kind of doubt that.

I think I'll just stick with the standard stuff on the sides, and see how that is. I have a used poly rear, so I'll toss that on just to see what it's like, next.
