Title: Different AAZ pump for the same car/year
Post by: jbturgeon on October 09, 2009, 09:03:50 am
Hi guys, i am wondering why, when i pull the cold lever start on my volkswagens golf (two 1995 1,9td), one golf is having the rpm at about 2000 rpm, and the other golf sounds the same and the rpm does not move when pull the cold lever start.

Is it possible that those two golf are equipped with different pump. I agree, the one that looks to have no change at the pump when i pull the cold lever start got some extra things on the pump compare to the other.

Is it normal? Does it work like that or one of the pump is broken. Should i adjust something on the pump that does nothing when i pull the lever?

Beside that, the car runs A1 and everything else sound's normal.

Thx

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the cold start lever on your cars should be a timing advance only. It should not have any effect on rpm. The only thing you should notice is a slight change of engine note, or maybe nothing at all if your timing is already advanced beyond factory spec.

The fast idle adjustment is actuated by a vacuum diaphragm. On one of your cars, it sounds like someone connected the timing advance cable (the lever inside your car) to it by mistake.

I think warm idle spec is around 850 - 900 rpm, cold idle is at 1200 rpm? The cold idle takes about 2 minutes to drop down to normal warm idle.

Did you find a deep socket for your injectors?

Thx very much niemis! That is more than an answer. Thanks for the precision about rpm. That 's really usefull.

For my injectors, i have been able to take the single spring one out and put a double stage spring injector. Now, my engine is running like a champ.

Have a good night

On MK3 AC cars the fast idle is controlled with the vacuum, on non AC cars the fast idle is controlled with the cold start lever, just like on the mk2
