I just got my 1.9td running. It idles great moves around good. But when I get going and it hits around 2000 rpm Its puts up a rather large smoke screen. It pulls pretty hard it just smokes a lot. At idle I get none. but when I rev it it puffs it out there pretty good. I have done nothing to it so far. And the only electrical parts I used to hook it up is the fuel stop and the glow plugs. I did notice there are a few connectors on that IP that I dont have hooked up But I dont know what they do. Also it seems to be worse after the engine up up to operating temp.

either turn the fuel screw down, or turn your boost up so you can burn all that black.
-
Well I need to find the fuel screw on this pump.
-
its most likely in the same spot they have been in the last 20 years. on the back of the pump near the top. has a stop collar on the screw so you can only screw it in a little ways.

Some of the 1.9td turbos had a vacuum line going to it along side the boost sensing line. If it has this vacuum line going to the turbo from a solenoid on the passenger side fender well disconnect it. When vacuum is applied to this line the wastegate opens sooner.
-
hmmmm well you say you have done nothing to it so i am assuming that the boost levels and fuelling are all at stock levels, I dont have alot of experience with the injector pumps on the 1.9L but i would imaging that those electrical connections are of some importance, another possibility is a stuck wastegate or maybe worn out injectors??
-
Im kind of inclined to agree with you on those connections. Also it does have some sort of vacuum line on the top of the pump.
-
Don't disconnect the line on the top of the pump. Thats your lda and it's a pressure line not a vacuum line. Check to see if you have two lines going to the turbo. If there is two, the small one is a vacuum line designed to reduce boost pressure under light load conditions.
Also, sounds straight forward but make sure your air filter is clean. A severely plugged air filter can cause lots of smoke.

yeah there are 2 lines on the waste gate.
