Title: 02a swap question
Post by: 54321chris on August 14, 2009, 06:00:31 am
Can I use the gasser starter that's on this 02a for my 1.6td?  It's out of a Corrado, not sure of the code right now, but I can check if it makes a difference.

If you don't ever want to start it cold with the starter motor - it has a small fraction the HP the diesel starter has - like over 2 hp in the diesel starter.  I would not mind having a 10 hp starter - I could forget using the GP unless it is really cold.

looks like NoSurrenderAG has a starter for me.  I'm DYING to get this thing moving.  Too bad I've got a broken exhaust manifold bolt to deal with before I can put it all back together.  Any suggestions?  I think my next attempt will be to cut a groove into the stud and use an impact screwdriver on it.

What's the current state? Engine in the car, manifold still on head ? If out of the car and the manifold is still on the head, I'd drill it with a QUALITY drill bit and get a QUALITY (i.e. not from Asia, exception maybe Japan) easy out, then get it HOT with a torch, it will come right out. If the manifold is off, heat it and use vise grips.
