ok I know theres a few of us brits on here so I thought I'd try and guage the interest/possibility of having a GTG, mybe if everyone could post up their location so we can see what sort of numbers we're talking about and where people would be coming from :D
Paul
Dorking, Surrey

county durham (dh9) north of england (near newcastle upon tyne)
-
Another one from north of the Watford Gap here, I'm in York. Usually got to a few general GTGs (Harewood House, Edition 38, Squires Cafe etc.) but a diesel only one would be cool...
Cheers,
Tom

Mk1vdub

Simon Baxter, I live in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, well, I live in Holmfirth actually, home of "Last of the summer wine" sadly enough, yeah, that and "Where the heart is" oh, and some of League of gentlemen was filmed around here!
I have a MKI Caddy 1.6D, a 3B Passat TDI sport and a T3 Westfalia Atlantic 1.6TD, soon to be AAZ powered.
I Run a small garage in Huddersfield specialising in T3's mainly but I do a fair amount of other VW/Audi/Skoda work as well as the run of the mill normal cars that some people seem to want to drive.
I would be up for a meet, maybe we should do it at a show at some point? I know I tend to go to more aircooled shows rather than the bit intimidating GTI type watercooled shows, I find them a bit, er, you know, a bit chavvy
Me - www.sjbaxter.co.uk and www.brickwerks.co.uk
I also run this place - www.brick-yard.co.uk
Nice.
Simon.
-
woah, jeez i posted this so long ago, I had pretty much given up on any replys!
it certainly is nice to see more brits on here :D
-
And me, down south of the Watford Gap, but not quite into the smoke itself, in fact the nice deer filled woods of West Herts... a bit of a T3 Syncro fanatic.
..and theres at least one more on here that hasn't found us yet. C'mon Bert.. catch up :)
-
Hi all,
when are we going to have a UK meet, we have raised the subject a few times. with christmas out of the way lets pick a place and finally do it.
i know there are 3 or 4of us in the london area? ace cafe is a great place for all like minded vw nuts, they have a night for everyone.
ace is in park royal are.
any other venues or places to meet?
hillshy
-
Not got diesel on road again yet... rebuilding turbos and tings but would drive out in cooking motor if it was local enough.. maybe meet at a another meet, so to speak..
Dubfreeze in Feb?
-
Wow,slow down, ive never been in these sections before  im up for a meet, the GTD is asleep till spring and then its taxed and used
Im in halesowen west midlands
Bert
-
Sometime in the spring would be good (although I'm getting Married in May, so not then please :D ). Give me the chance to get the new panel on as well to replace the rotten bits!
How about somewhere about an hour North of London? Try and get it a little more central to give more people the chance to attend? I know a good pub in Eaton Socon by the river just off the A1 :)
-
Hey all,
good idea tomb
i believe this is where you mean,
http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=500000.562947551&Y=250000.92078152
i'm cool with that location, as its also near to santa pod raceway, maybe even do a vw dub show in the summer, santapod is my second home,
i'm with a vdub club that offically seised to be years ago but we all still meet at santpod twice ayear and the ace cafe monthly and we always have to largest pitch in club camping at santapod for bugjam, which really should change its name to busjam ar golfjam as its a mixture of all cool volkporn.
spring, in time to the longer evenings..
sound like a good plan!
-
Actually, I was thinking of this place:
The River Mill Tavern (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=PE19+8HN,+UK&ie=UTF8&z=15&ll=52.215943,-0.287104&spn=0.011832,0.044289&om=1&iwloc=addr)
However, either's good! Anyplace with a good car park, and a nice atmosphere is good for me.
Need a new gearbox and a spot of welding though before I'm fit to go anywhere... :D
-
Im in shropshire so could get most places within a couple of hours.
maybe if the pub would let us kip in the garden then wouldnt have to drive back if any one wanted a pint or three? :D
-
Hi

-

-
Billingham, Teesside (Near Middlesbrough), but I cant see my car being finished until VW Festival Harewood House Leeds or at least that's what I'm aiming for to have it ready for
-

HI guys
New to the forum but just bought myself a mk2 GTD. Based in coventry so not a million miles away from yourself bert.
Are you the same bert who is on the mk1 forum who runs his car on cooking oil? Cant imagine there are too many berts with mk1 TDs with the same username!
Would be up for a meet some time. Things are a little hectic for next month or so as im at warick medical school and have exams coming up. If there are any meets im sure i can tear myself away from the books for a few hours.
P
-
YES thats me, cooking oil bert  44p liter cant grumble at that price 8) im in halesowen so not far at all,we need to sort a meet maybe at BVF in july, ace place to meet up :D and yes im on the mk1 golf owners club.
Bert
-
definitely up for the meet in july. Let me know where and when and i'll be there. I want to pick your brains about cooking oil as that was the grand plan for this car.
-
Boys this is the place to arrange a meet, either on the car parks or on the displays...
http://ccgi.bvfweb.plus.com/bvf/bvf.php
Bert
-
Bert,
Big bang was good, despite the chill of the evening, BVF malvern, was already thinking of going to that, yes yes yes, bit of a trek but i will go.
hillshy
-
BVF then lads, are we meeting on the carpark, its a big field? the sunday would be better, its a good meeting place
Bert
-
Hello Bert,
are you not making a weekend of it,i would like too, as its abit of a trek for me, i've heard its a good show and a good laugh. , how far are you away?
hillshy..
-
Im 44 miles from the place,i go every year,i might show my car?? i would go on the mk1 golf owners club stand,or meet you diesel lot on the car park field maybe?
Bert
OR have a DIESEL section
-
Bert,
a diesel section  there's an idea. its will be a first time me at the show, so wont know really anyone else there. but i'm still up for the visit tho.
we could have a GTD powered section, i can take part in that as i should have the rebuilt gtd lump in long before then, i'm going to attempt to get it in in he next few weeks, its running fine, Well, the 20 mins that i tesed it on the floor of my garage   ,i came out grinning from ear to ear the night i finally got it fired up.
so who else is up for meet up?
-
I'm up for coming too. Only an hour away for me. Ive never been either but would be good to met up with everyone. A diesel section would be great if we can get enough numbers, think there are a few folks in scotland but might be a treck for them. Any other takers?
-
The autojumble is ace too, theres a fair for the kids, loads of food, good club displays etc,and the surroundings are stunning, well worth the drive lads,if it was a poor show i wouldnt recommend it. 8)
Bert
-
are you on commision for this? ;)
-
No :( wish i was though
Bert
-
ello all,
those who are up for a meet up at the show, is anyone up for camping a nite or 2, or just day release? i have a weekend pass  (for once!)
Just got back from a massive kit car sho in stoneleigh, it was gr8 day out loads of good crap there, a guy on a stall did take piss outa me at one point tho, when i asked for 16 foot of vaccum hose for a boost gauge set up, what's that going in a bus, err yer why? Cheeky Git!
anyone also up for a bug jam? that's not to be missed. that is a wicked show!! there's alway a good turn out of gti's in the show n shine. hint, hint bert!
www.bugjam.co.uk offical site
www.santapod.co.uk event location/organisors
hillshy
-
BVF will probably be sunday only,if the weather is crap forcast for sunday i will do saturday but i like the sunday day out
And yes hillshy im up for bugjam ,ive never been though, you need a tow still? any steep hills enroute
Bert
-
bert,
good, glad your up 4 bugjam, let me know if you wanna pitch in with us(Lo E Nuf vw club), as i can get extra room in club camping but i will need some advance notice 3/4 weeks at the latest as its gets so rammed that space is a premium there, and man dont joke about the hill thing, there are 2 big 9astard hills enroute where the 1.7na is on its arse trying to keep pace.
soon soon the td will be in, so watch this space.
hillshy
-
Hi hillshy,im only going to be going for the sunday,as i usually mot test on a saturday  but i will meet up with you and the snail  i will give you my number so ew can arrange a meet on the day :D
Bert
-
So its malvern in july 7-8th and bugjam 20-22nd july then for the meets,is that cool with everyone, what about mk1vdub,hes the main man for the meet aranging  any other time and place to meet up?
Bert
-
I'm another one from the uk :P
Down in sunny Weymoth, Dorset.
Looking for a TD engine if anybody has one going! (Not likely haha)
I might be going to bugjam, not sure yet.
-
I got a spare engine of you pm me we can discuss.
if i dont get a turbo by then, im not going to either
-
I've got two turbo engines now! Building a 1.9GTD 8)
Thanks anyway
I think I might go to bugjam. Take the caddy down the strip and show all the petrolheads that diesels can kick ass too.
Can't beat the look of a pickup truck shooting down a drag strip with smoke bellowing out of a nice fat stack
-
Bean,like this
Bert
-
whats the plan then? Where are we meeting for malvern? I wish my car was as shiny as yours bert. I still have bits of glastonbury field dangling from the underside of mine!
-
any news hillshy after your last minute turbo troubles?
-
Well to be honest, the show may be cancelled due to the weather, the fields will probably be a mud bath, the forecast looks poor tooso no idea,i will look at the b.v.f. website to see what they say.
Bert
-
We have had a number of calls and emails from visitors voicing concern over the news of flooding in the midlands and north of the country. Just to let you know that we've been in constant contact with the showground organisers and they've reported no problems and that they don't expect any due to the high ground position the showground holds compared to local rivers etc.
Senior members of the BVF comittee visited the showground yesterday to do a visual check on the showground and confirmed what the showground organisers had already reported.
We look forward to seeing you all at BVF 2007!
Bert SEE YOU THERE
-
Well bvf was dry sunny and packed out, what happened to the meet? we really need to sort out bug jam then  the mk1 flew up the motorway, had a play with a mk2 golf,i won of course
Bert
-
Yeah it was a bit of a balls up really. I came down around 11am on sunday and had a look for your car but never found it. Saw a camper the same colour hillshy painted his engine block which i thought at a long shot might be the man himself but no joy. Wasnt really in the mood to tell you the truth as my gran got taken into hospital on the saturday and it killed the enthusiasm somewhat.
On the plus side i found someone with a GTD dash clock for me after i found a rip in my current one.
Hows the turbo fixing coming along hillshy?
Im in yorkshire dales bugjam weekend unfortunately.
-
I was there in the overspill carpark, not on display in the grounds,i couldnt be arsed to be honest, after all that rain i was expecting MUD
Bert
-
Couldnt be arsed with polishing your shiny engine bay again after getting it caked in mud no doubt. I think these festivals are much better when you camp as you have time to relax, have a beer and talk to people. I went to JAE last year with my mate and his civic/del sol forum buddies and it was great, despite not being so jap crazy as he is. Not a bad festival JAE, bigger than the VW one.
-
hello chaps,
its all good in the hood, the bus is running nice, i keep playing n tuning trying to find a happy balance and generally getting a good feel for the engine on different settings, from high boost with lots of fuel, to normal setting and so on. i'm still fitting the int'cooler, lol taken ages i know, but i'm totally sure where its going now and how etc etc.
one thing tho! when i put the new motor in, i also fitted another box, but that's coming out again. 5th gear is to short, my petrol box was much better.
Bert- what happened at bugjam, it was wet but the Sunday cleared up and some good racing was seen. 2 of my mates won some trophy's, one best Cabby Beetle and other won best custom beetle. which was a cool.
Aiden/Bert well actually ALL UK'rs we really have to hook up, whats next on the calender? i'm doing vanfest got tickets n all, never been b4, may not be your thing but all types of vw's turn up as i have seen from lots of prev photo's. Any takers?
when is ed 38?
-
VANFEST 100% be there, yes lets all meet up,vanfest is a good show, good for all the family too,its usually good weather in september so fingers crossed, and hilly, the weather put me off for bugjam, and the nipper was ill with a cold again,so in the end it was a day in watching tv
Bert
-
Hey Bert,
the weather did put off lots of people i must admit, it was the most tame bugjam i've been too, ive done efew  10+ tehee!. lets try to hook up for vanfest. its goiong to be a great show, can't wait, im bringing my 4yr old lil man there too as its really geared up for kids, how old is your nipper, i am camping up so if anyone wants to pop up and say hello then i'm camping up with the brickyard lot where that is!
Aidan are you up for meeting up at vanfest, I owe you several beers man. lol
rubadubdub you up for it too?
-
Stu there is no easy way of saying this, but I now own a Volvo! In a moment of insanity I thought it was a good idea, petrol aswell! Still have the mk3 but not for long, going from 50mpg to 16mpg (not a misprint) will be hard to adjust to!
Bert - I'm working in Halesowen at the moment, do you know Coombs Rd, round the corner from the Honda dealer?
-
Hi lads, vanfest it is then, hillshy,my nipper is 5 so he loves the shows now,and aidan, coombs road is 0.1 mile from my work
Bert
-
Vanfest is good for me as at least i will be at the same venue, but I will be trading all weekend..
:?
Feel free to bob past and say hello, I will be sharing with CJ of syncrospares.co.uk just on the bottom side of the creche, you can't miss us, we usually have a PA running and we have a triple plot, with lots of t3 syncro's.
I will be taking my T3 Atlantic and my T4 2.5 TDI.
8)
-
looks like we will be meeting up there then, i hope,
Aiden- screw it bring the volvo,
Stu
-
hello all, Vanfest was good, i meet up with Si, he's a top bloke, nearly meet up with bert, but i had to leave and pick up the boy and hit the motor way.
when and ehere is the is the next attempt?
one day we will get there
-
I arrived late to be honest, traffic was a joke,i went in citigolf as the TD threw a shoe, starter motor died after 24 years
Bert
-
evening chaps,
Im in Huddersfield West Yorks and just picked this up on the bay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230186054358&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=013
think ill be making contact with Mr Brickwerks!
once I get the car tidied up a bit and ll those stickers off wouldnt mind geting iinto the dub scene.
-
Nice, was watching that.
Not been on in a while, but i'm still finding myself wanting a mk2 again, or a corrado, m-tdi powered. I've kept the H&R suspension, 02A gearbox, VR6 clutch, AHU block from the mk3. With that rare merc/VW 12mm pump, vnt20/t3, and tintin's excellent .216s on it I think it would be an interesting drive.
If anyone knows of an AHU head, or compatible, for sale let me know
-
why didnt you have a bid mate? I thought it was cheap as chips for the money?
-
It definitely was a bargain, but its not really the best time for me to buy.
I went from GTD to a mk3 tdi, and to be honest I think the tdi was better. I guess its solely down to the more modern turbo on the TDI, but I wouldn't be happy unless it was a mk2 with a tdi engine in it, along with the cable shift box
-
Having dropped off the radar for a bit, I thought I'd add to this again. Well, the nights are getting longer, so there may be the chance to meet up again.
I'm planning on going to Dub Preservation meetings on Thursdays at Squires Cafe, Sherburn in Elmet. Alternatively....Harwood in 6 months time? :D
Cheers (and it's good to be back)
Tom
-
Hello Chaps - its a bit of a distance into the future, but as it is pretty centrally located Santa Pod looks like a good place for a meet - hows about 6th June, GTi Festival?
http://www.vwaction.co.uk/gtiframe.html
Gives everyone time to plan for it ..... Could be a giggle??
Adam
-
Damn, I couldn't make that I'm afraid as I'm going to be in France for a holiday/Le Mans Classic.
Looks good fun though, so one to slot in for next year I think!
Cheers,
Tom
-
Summer a coming boys,a meet is in order i think  i think we should get the women to organise a meet,as we seem to not bother
Bert
-
i got a mk2 1.6 TD
from suffolk/ipswich and cambridge area..
well up for a meet 8)
